This day 8 years ago this masterpiece was made.

God San Andreas is such a fucking great game. It's one of the only games that I've played thousands and thousands of hours of, yet still have a blast playing it now.
Last month I played through it again because of the PS4 emulated version coming out.
Ironically SA:MP is still the best GTA multiplayer to be released and it was a fucking mod
Pretty pathetic on rockstars part
I count GTA:SA among the most amazing game experiences I've ever had

And it's still got a shitload of players.

Amazing, really
Despite how large GTA IV and V are, San Andreas still FEELS the largest.
It actually FEELS like you're exploring an entire state, its so massive. And im positive that in relative scale, it is bigger than IV or V.

The English speaking population of SA-MP is dying out though, sadly. One of the most popular servers on the client has over 700+ players daily, most of which are Russian. Pretty amazing regardless.

I think part of it is because once you get to a new city you stay there for a while. For example when you get to the part in the story where you need to get out of Los Santos, you actually dont return there for like half the game. And when you do return it's a huge mission where you take parachute onto a mansion and take it over with a bunch of Triads.
The other GTA games don't have that, so they feel smaller in comparison. Even if their map is technically bigger.

V does have that whole section where [sp]Michael and Trev kidnap that guys wife so they can't go back to the city for a bit and live in Sandy Shores.[/sp] That's probably the closest thing, but the map in V still feels tiny compared to SA.

It doesn't really work as well because the whole map is unlocked from the start.

Good call.
I completely forgot about this video oh my god.My only regret about this being as old as it is, it predates being able to actually get high def footage.
I always remember and can't forget however, this guy's other video, 9 years old.

That's because, as always, players often know what players want.
I honestly don't think the GTA games are very good, but hot dam that video was great.
We should just send this game out into space with a playstation and crt and hope the aliens hook it up right. It's the perfect artifact to give them the most information about what humans were like. That and test their gaming skillz and see if they can get past the train mission.

Ah man, the memories are flooding back. I remember waking up one morning and logging into the GamerX server as I've been doing for about 2 years, and I was greeted with mod status, and all the players and online mods saying "Happy birthday Corey_Faure!"
Ugh that was such a good time.
Played this game's campaing for the first time last year (as a kid I just exploded everything) and let me tell you, this game is absolutely amazing still. Still the better GTA.

San Andreas is honestly really lacking in graphics, even when it came out, but that never bothered me all that much because the game is absolutely good.
All the GTA games have places in my heart for different reasons.
GTA3 for being the first I played and for having what is, imo, an aestheticaly pleasing city and soundtrack (I have no idea why, I love Shoreside Vale, despite being a bit confusing at times)
San Andreas for being pretty ground-breaking in almost every aspect and just being one hell of an adventure (it even has James Woods!)
IV for the feel of the city, story, and... I can't really explain it, but despite looking a bit like crap, something about it makes it pleasing to me.
Vice City not for all that much... I liked to play 2 Minutes to Midnight while riding helicopters. It feels badass as fuck. The game isn't bad though, by no means!
V honestly feels kind of weak to me, in comparison to San Andreas. Maybe its rose tinted nostalgia glasses, or the sense of amazement has left me forever, but San Andreas felt much better.

I don't get it - was Wrong Side of the Tracks really that difficult? For both PS2 and PC, and the several times I've completed the storyline on both, I can only recall failing that mission a grand total of one time, and that wasn't even the first attempt. I'd even go so far as to say it's pretty easy.
The same goes for Demolition Man from GTA: VC, the only exception being that I don't recall ever failing it
SAMP? What is wrong with you heathens. MTA is way better. Also SAMP lies about those player numbers. You can't trust that at all.

Can you run for president of earth please the people need you
I remember this was one of the first games that got me in to PC gaming. I used to mod the shit out of it and just have hours of mindless fun with the amount of custom content people created.
It will always have a special place in my heart. I even held an award on GTAForums for a while before they got rid of them. I made lots of good friends there, good times.
I put way too many hours into this game back in the day.
Damn I miss SA-MP so much. I remember I hated GMod RP so much I decided to RP on SA-MP
Urge to play San Andreas Multiplayer rising...

The train mission is piss easy once you realize you have to stay on the far side of the tracks to hit them. But the game doesn't indicate it anywhere and the sparks can be easy to miss if Big Smoke is just hitting the side of the train since you are too close.

I never understood this. All you have to do is give Big Smoke a clear shot. Were people expecting him to shoot through the train? I remember hearing all my friends with PS2's talking about how hard that mission was and being pretty nervous about fucking it up once the xbox version came out, then I beat it on my first try and it was the easiest thing.
Wrong side of the tracks was never hard. In fact, the missions that are hard were actually only hard for me as a kid. Like the Lowrider, the dancing, the flying school and the zero missions. Yes i remember struggling with them for a very very long time, but nowadays i just play trough them in a few tries.
I always thought The Driver in Vice City was pretty difficult, its the only mission in the game I actually struggled a lot with, but was rewarding as fuck as well.

PS2 definitely. Trying to play it with a keyboard though was just a pain in the ass.
