More Iranian Dickwaving: 'Iran planning to attack US bases in Germany'

[release]Officials in the German government said Iran will try to target US military bases located in Germany, if Washington launches an attack against its nuclear program in Tehran, German newspaper Bild reported on Thursday.
According to the paper, the German security services held an investigation against a German businessman who is suspected of having secret ties with the Iranian Embassy in Berlin, and helping to plan an attack on American Air Force bases located in the country.
The aim of the attack, the report noted, is to thwart American logistic activities needed in order to carry out a military operation against Iranian nuclear facilities.
In a confidential document leaked to the paper, the German chief prosecutor's office claimed that the businessman is suspected of involvement in "espionage and sabotage" activities. The paper estimated that the suspect engaged in intelligence gathering for possible attacks on dozens of American military bases in western Germany.
According to the report, potential targets included airstrips in military bases that serve the US army and NATO forces.
The release of the report comes a day after Germany recalled its ambassador in Tehran, following the storming of the British Embassy on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, EU governments agreed on Thursday to add about 180 people and entities to its sanctions on Iran, an EU official said.
The ratcheting up of pressure on Iran follows a Nov. 8 report by the International Atomic Energy Agency which presented intelligence suggesting Iran had worked on designing an atomic bomb and may still be secretly carrying out related research, something Tehran denies.[/release]

How could they say that?
[editline]1st December 2011[/editline]
Oh damn, they fixed it.
Oh they deyyed!!
Well Germany, that's what you get for letting us have bases there.
And US, this is what you get for an aggressive foreign policy of building military bases in 100+ nations across the globe. You get two people that don't even mind each other that much pissy because you're nearby.
you better fix that before someone quotes and screenshots it
Godammit.
:c
How in the world would that work? They would have to go through a lot of NATO first and then the Bundswher (not sure how its spelt), and then arentthe US Bases in Germaney quite large and battleready?

Sometimes threats alone are a weapon in itself. The risk that, even though improbable, it could be possible can be too much to bear.
Not sure about this, since Bild is the german version of the sun or daily mail.

I don't recall Germany "letting" us build bases there; it was sort of a punishment/security measure that was forced upon them after World War II... an affair they weren't particularly passive in. It's quite good for commerce there today, however.
And Iran gets this sort of bitchy attitude all the time, towards the West in general. But that's what you get from a country run by oppressive theocratic clergymen that oppose all which does not conform to Islam. I feel bad for the people there who genuinely want change to happen, though, and cannot make it a reality.

Given that WWII is over along with the Iron Curtain gone, I don't see much reason to keep it there other than serve as another place to keep troops ready to service an invasion to south west Asia or some other nation we suddenly don't like.

Germany's never been used for that. It would be highly inefficient. I think the last time we actually used troops from there in combat was during the Kosovo War, and most of it consisted of performing bombing raids in support of NATO. The Germans don't seem to mind much, either, as far as the bases are concerned.
We still have our 99 year naval base lease with the British on that Roosevelt and Churchill agreed upon in 1940, too.
yeahokay
Good luck with that.
Doesn't sound like dickwaving to me.
It's not 'Iranian dickwaving' if German officials are making that claim - that is if it's even legitimate given Bild's track-record.
Dickwaving would be if Iran proclaimed to attack U.S. bases in Germany outright. What it really is, is a tabloid citing German officials saying Iran will try to target U.S. Bases in germany, if Washington attacks Iran.

Obviously they don't mean a traditional attack, but maybe a terrorist-style car bombing or something

In the end, Germany gets targeted because we're there with our foreign policy.
Dear Iran,
Please stop waving your dick around, it's small, hairy and unimpressive.

Love, Hillary.
P.S., I've seen bigger
We have over 50,000 troops in Germany, what the hell does Iran think they will accomplish if they attack Germany? Not to mention the German army would attack Iran also.

Why does America have troops everywhere anyway? Why are there that many in Germany?
In case oil sprouts out of the ground somewhere in Asia/Middle-east. America can "liberate" the region that posses it quicker I suppose?

Bases and shit we've had since WW2. We kept a presence there to both "pacify Germany" as it was litteraly quoted to me once, and to prevent the Soviets from taking the whole place over.
What the... leave me alone Iran!
Stop making us a target America...
Aren't there still american nukes in germany...?

Like purvisdavid said, mostly left over from both WWII and the Cold War.
Not to mention the fact that we medivac most of our wounded to Germany for care, and that it's a good refueling/rearming point.

No, because of the Allied Control Council's ratification of JCS-1067 and the Morgenthau Plan.
Hm. My hometown is near the biggest place for US troops and ressource movement, it's the airport Leipzig/Halle and I'm from Halle.
A friend of mine even works there.
Bild Zeitung is like Germany's Fox News. It's full of bullshit, misinterpretation and sensationalist misconceptions. They'll turn "dog barks at man" into "werewolves invade from outer space".
I wouldn't trust them with two pennies.
why dont we let all politics and presidents in an arena and fight there own fights? instead of starting ww3
Germanys fault for suckin too much american dick.
... Oh wait... shit.
There are indeed american nukes in bayern, dont ask me why. Its not our right to know, as long as our politicians know about that stuff everything is gonna be alright :downs:
