But, at the opening Steam Dev Days, Valve announced that Samsung TVs will soon have Steam Link integrated natively. Functionality will likely be similar to that of a Smart TV, with a button that will take you right to it.
Of course, this is only a bonus to buying a Samsung TV. If you aren't planning to get one, you'll still have to shell out the $50 for Steam Link Classic.
Aren't these things running ARM? If so damn valve, can you make a generic ARM release pls so I can use my pi as a steam link without using shitty nvidia stuff
I wonder if they'll start including it on other stuff like phones or maybe even consoles
I'm sure this was an easy negotiation for Valve given Samsung's recent fuck-ups.

classic? there's a new steam link?
As someone who has a Samsung TV-- awesome! Was going to get the SteamBox, but nevermind I guess.

you need to buy a fresh new tv i think

Not sure. At Dev Days we got gift bags full of unreleased(?) steam products like the replacement cover and dongle, but the link and controller look the same as they were before. They've definately talked about upgrading stuff but I think that was only related to the Vive, not the steam hardware (which they're trying to do mostly through software it seems.) i think it just might be a weird way of referring to it.
Dammit, and I just got a nice new one, too
My Seinfeld reruns have never looked better

Are you talking about the Note 7? That's a completely different department, if you are.

Totally agree, but I wouldn't count on in, it seems there is licensable bullshit in the way.
Atleast it is hinted at:
For legal purposes and to help with approvals from regulatory agencies, we have to lock it down pretty tight; we do not support any kind of modding or custom software/firmware. It's best to think of it as a purpose-built streaming client, as opposed to a device with specific hardware specs. But if you're just curious, it's a smartphone-like ARMv7 processor with dedicated h.264 video decoding circuitry, running a custom Linux kernel and a Valve-developed software stack.
Too bad it's on a smart TV.
Every smart TV I've ever used has been a huge pain in the ass. I'd much rather just buy a Steam Link and a dumb TV.

I bought a new Samsung TV recently, must say they've gotten better over the years, they're much less in your face now. My TVs menus are nice and subtle and easy.
Sidenote, does anyone know if current TVs will get some sort of update or is this a physical thing for new TVs?

Sure hope it's an update instead, since I've only had my TV for less than a year. Seems like fitting them with only new tvs will only limit their market even more
