Strolling down Oxford Street in Paddington with wife Lucy by his side, Mr Turnbull made small talk with business owners, young families, hipsters and homeless people alike. To the constant refrain of "congratulations" and "good on you", he pressed the flesh and graciously agreed to all requests for quick selfies. He might have left his black leather jacket at home in favour of a navy blazer, but it was a rock star reception for our new PM in the more colourful part of his electorate, Wentworth. With a large media contingent keeping step, Mr and Mrs Turnbull cruised past the fortune tellers at Paddington Markets, deflecting questions about what their own future may hold.

The only local who seemed disappointed by Mr Turnbull's presence was an older gentleman hoping to cadge a smoke.
http://www.smh.com.au/nsw/malcolm-turnbull-meets-locals-on-oxford-street-paddington-20150919-gjqdx7.html?&utm_source=social&utm_medium=facebook&utm_campaign=nc&eid=socialn%3Afac-14omn0013-optim-nnn%3Anonpaid-25062014-social_traffic-all-organicpost-nnn-smh-o&campaign_code=nocode&promote_channel=social_facebook

Okay wait, which country is he PM of? Like, it's obviously a commonwealth country but I thought Britain just had the elections and if I recall didn't Abott or some other stuffy conservative win PM seat again? I don't know. I don't know shit about British politics. I've got too much to worry about over here.

And Abbott's an Australian conservative who just lost the prime ministerial job (not his seat).

Because that's what I'm getting from this.

Pro: We have a Minister for Science again! Con: It's Pyne.
Interesting but unsurprising to see a lot of the old guard out. Also this cabinet has the first female defence minister ever, first indigenous cabinet member and possibly the youngest assistant Minister ever. Oh yeah and now the Minister for Women is actually a woman haha. Looking forward to Morrison's budget next year, not expecting much as I assume any major change would wait until the election though. He's such a fucking fixer
Pro: We have a Minister for Science again! Con: It's Pyne.
While I disagree with his views as education minister, I think he'll do a fine job there. First indigenous cabinet member? I'm surprise that hasn't made the news.
people are just way too excited that abbotts lost his seat
Fucking good, too. Relying on dead industries like coal and car manufacturing is about as short sighted as taking insecticides to every bee in existence.

Turnbull is a hypocrite and has pretty much ruined the NBN and Australia will continue to lag behind the world in regards to our Internet. They would be considered Progressive....in the 1950's

still alliiiiive..." with the Queen's face on it and that's it Britain has no direct control over what happens anywhere in the commonwealth and the only relevant thing it does is host a sports event every 4 years, all the states in are independent domains with their own governments
Wait wait wait are you suggesting something along the lines of Australia still being owned by the UK? Because that's what I'm getting from this.
God forbid NO, it's the UK's biggest open air prison. ;)

Just because they were Ministers didn't give them free reign to do whatever they liked with their departments. If the cabinet decided to go ahead with deregulating tertiary education fees, the Education Minister couldn't publicly speak against it even if they personally disagreed with it. Past voting tendencies and Ministerial performance should never be used as indicators of tendencies when serving in a brand new cabinet. Also FYI they are both republicans, for marriage equality, small-l liberals, and Turnbull was the one who proposed the emissions-trading scheme all those years ago. They are some of the most progressive members of the Liberal party but also more-progressive than half of the Labor party.

He's sold out his values to get the leadership and nothing will change except there'll be fewer public gaffes and a slightly sneakier version of fucking the Australian people over.

I would expect significant proposals for if they're re-elected, as the conservative faction would have to respect his mandate.
