Thought i´d post this here to introduce myself. i wanted to make a thread offering to make music for mods or games that anyone might be making, but i don´t know where the right place would be for that, really.
i´ll keep it simple, and post the link: http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page_music.cfm?bandID=704216
this is the place where i put my ideas. there aren´t alot of finished songs in there, but lots of ideas that i like. i usually get an idea, record it, then put it there, and when the day comes, i´ll pick the ones i like, and finish them, put them together, stuff like that. keep in mind the mixes are also rough, since i don´t spend too much time on that when i´m just conveying a musical idea.
anyways, i´m a huge fan of the soundtracks in valve games, and the way they work with the gameplay, and so i´d like to try that sort of thing myself. if anyone is making a mod or a game, i would love to make something for it :)
Lemme write up some stuff. It'll probably be a lot so ignore any spelling errors or grammar laziness. I'm also not good on musical grammar because I have no formal musical theory training. I go off my interestblahblahblah
When Everything Comes Together: Right now, the piano is kinda boring. You don't get a change in the bass notes until nearly a minute in. It gets more interesting at the end, but it could use some chord progression at the beginning for bottom notes. The techno part doesn't fit, and sounds awkward anyways.
Lolspension: The guitar just sounds gross. The chords are weird. When the higher notes come in they just sound awkward. Your note/chord progression is REALLY strange. It doesn't seem like those off notes are being "solved". That probably doesn't make sense. The instruments (I'm assuming they're virtual?) don't sound so good.
Bouncy Sheep: I like this one. Good notes that go well with each other. Has a very cartoony feel, fun.
OMG TRANCE LOL: Decent. There's not enough there. The synth on the melody part is too quite.
Raw Test: Not my style but the drums sound like a seizure. Could use better mastering.
Random idea: Doesn't sound very "huge". The guitar in the foreground is good. It sounds like you used a lowpass filter on the whole thing though.
Streetwalker v1: Sounds really good. One of the last notes before the guitar repeats doesn't fit, at least for this style. It sounds awkward with the rest. Overall I like this one quite a bit
New Mix Test: Guitar is gross, as are all of your guitar chords. Brighten them up some! Stop making it all low, slurred sounding. To me that just signals a high school garage band sound.
Dysphoric: Starts off okay. The guitar again is gross. Please do what I said above. The "metal" parts doesn't fit with the ancient egyptian (if I'm off sue me) sounding part.
Apophenia: Starts off really well. Keeps it mellow really well. This one is better than most.
You've got a lot more which you put under alternative metal. It all has that gross sound to it.
It seems like you've got the more mellow stuff down pact. The metal is lacking.
I really liked LOLSUSPENSION. Sounds like a Meshuggah demo tape.
I hear a lot of Meshuggah in a lot of the clips, actually. And some Devin Townsend. You pull it off quite fell. But, I would say try and find your own style, you know? The electronic stuff doesn't feel as... thought out as the metal stuff. But I still liked some of it.
Kitchen Utensil Madness is fun.
Wow, the juxtaposition in Dopamine Rush is pretty crazy.
You should totally spend a longer time with a project, and come up with full-blown songs, rather than minute-long samples.
