Teenage Cannabis Use Does Not Lead to Adulthood Asthma, Depression, or Lung Cancer
As per reports, the conclusions of the study were documented following tracking hundreds of participants from youth into their mid-30s. The study was conducted only on male participants. The research was conducted by dividing the participants into four groups.
One group was having those who hardly ever or never used marijuana and second was having those who consumed marijuana in early years of their life. Third group consisted of those who used marijuana in adolescence and fourth started consuming marijuana in their late teenage years and continued using it through middle age.
According to Jordan Bechtold, lead researcher from University of Pittsburg Medical Center, "What we found was a little surprising. There were no differences in any of the mental or physical health outcomes that we measured regardless of the amount or frequency of marijuana used during adolescence".
Cool to know this.
...but as other studies have demonstrated, at those ages, it can damage a growing brain.
One single study saying something, especially something contradicting a lot of other previous studies, is generally meaningless but the media loves implying that because the study said it, it must be true.
More studies are needed to validate the findings.
does it lead to a useless druggie life though

kidding that doesn't need to be answered (cos there's already an answer (yes))

Are you really saying anyone that smokes weed as a teen is doomed to be a "useless druggie"? Jeez, you don't think that's narrow minded?

Yeah, trying to cut off any bit of discussion by answering your own question is going to backfire.
None of these conclusions are really surprising or groundbreaking. Cannabis is generally pretty safe to use if you're an adult.

Since it is not addictive it is unlikely.

Weed is more addicting than alcohol if you're stressed or depressed in my experience.
Still a terrible idea to take recreational drugs when you're a teenager or anywhere during your studies for that matter.
Weed's the kind of thing you should do when you've got a stable job and spare time.
Weed is more addicting than alcohol if you're stressed or depressed in my experience.
It's not physically addictive though. Any addiction you have to weed is purely your own fault.
Weed is more addicting than alcohol if you're stressed or depressed in my experience.
True, in my experience alcohol makes depression a lot worse but weed helps to deal with it. I hardly drink alcohol anymore because I turn into crying suicidal wreck, with weed I can actually deal with my depression and get something done.
I smoked weed frequently from the ages of 12 to 18 and while it probably affected my school work I don't think it had any adverse effects on me as a person. I'm 20 now and will still smoke on occasion but it's definitely not an everyday thing like it used to be

The hundreds of thousands of people with crippling alcoholism probably beg to differ.

recreational drugs are addictive homie
the 18/21 rule isn't just made up shit, it's supposed to protect you from using it as a kid and damaging you while growing -- it's general knowledge at this point that it's not that bad for an adult unless you're addicted/using it too much
asthma, lung cancer, and depression aren't what people were worried about -- smoking can give you two of the three of those things. the idea is that they don't want people using it before they're done growing because it could have bad effects on your growth and especially a developing brain.

not physically homie

Not all*
I once smoked one joint and ever since I have been hunted by science fiction wizards from Zeta Riticuli, my only hope in life are the speeches of Black Hitler and a good old cigarette that I only smoke if I can get my local priest to bless it to guard me against the evil smoke demons that serves the science fiction wizards.
Weed is the worst, most deadly, most addicting drug in the universe! Do not touch this!
Seriously though, drugs affect people differently. Because a bunch of people didn't get a depression, it doesn't mean I am a liar when I say that my abuse led to my depression.
Enjoy your candy and cartoons when you are a kid, when you hit adulthood, try it out if you feel like, do it in moderation, and don't pretend that it's a cure-all for anything, because it's not, it's a fun drug, nothing more, nothing less. At least in my opinion.
I did weed needles throughout my teenage years, still do from time to time, and now I'm a successful Network admin and a music producer.
I'm not a highly successful music producer, but I'd go as far to say that if it hadn't been for my experimentation during my teenage years I probably wouldn't be doing this at all right now. And Frankly it's one of the greatest joys in my life.
So tell me how it could possibly affect me negatively.
Should be legal for adults 21 and older in every state
In all seriousness, I've been smoking moderately to heavily since I was 14. I'm now 25, only effects I've had are bouts of paranoia and some social anxiety. The laziness and depression was aaaall me baby

Been there, But honestly, I learned to just embrace the social awkwardness of it. once you embrace it, the social anxiety goes away and you end up having way more fun.
When I smoke these days, I find myself either cleaning the flat or sitting down and making music for like 4 hours.
I'm the most productive I've ever been on the stuff.
My high school health classes lied to me.
While we're dropping anecdotes, I smoke every day and have since Junior year of high school and I'm about as successful as I could hope to be considering I am fresh out of college with a great job programming in the games industry.
So yeah. Anecdotes are worthless.
To be fair, it doesn't matter what studies say. If there's a good study about weed, it'll be vastly over-emphasised to be so amazing, while all of the studies showing negative effects will be ignored and slandered because the tunnel vision is so fucking huge anyway.
Personally cannabis makes me depersonalized and anti-social if I use it a few days in a row, not to mention it makes all my joints crack, pop and hurt. It's a really odd thing, seems not many people at all experience the same thing.
I still have nothing against it, I'm all for it. Some people just seem to look at all the positive things while ignoring all the negatives going "noo it's a wonder drug there's nothing negative about it".
The effects vary greatly from person to person, some people can smoke all day while some can't smoke at all.
Proof that cannabis is just a medicinal plant after all, not a drug :3
