https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/greek-bailout-fund
A new campaign has been set up on Indiegogo, an online funding website with a mission of "empowering everyone to change the world." With a goal of raising 1.6 billion euros, the "Greek Bailout Fund" aims to do what the Hellenic Republic's creditors apparently cannot. And, unlike Greece's actual bailout package there are no (austerity) strings attached. More than 5,000 people have pledged so far, raising more than 82,000 euros. When we checked yesterday that figure was at a mere 4,297 euros. Half an hour ago it was at 50,000 euros. Things seem to be moving fast, though it's worth remembering that at the current rate, raising this much money would still take time. If the campaign does not hit its lofty goal of raising 1.6 billion euros, then contributors are supposed to get their money back. If they do hit the goal, the campaign's creator, a self-described a 29-year-old based in London, says; "all profits will go to the Greek people." As the Indiegogo page puts it: "€1.6bn is what the Greeks need. It might seem like a lot but it's only just over €3 from each European." And for a €3 you supposedly get a postcard sent from Alex Tsipras, the Greek Prime Minister. So far it looks like 33 people have donated €160; 260 have donated €25; 460 have donated €10; 330 have pledged €6; and nearly 1,000 have donated €3. That's almost 1,000 postcards of Tsipras due to be sent. Update: As of 8:50am New York time, the campaign has raised more than €100,000.
Perks: * a postcard of (not from) Alexis Tsipras for 3€, * a feta + olive salad for 6€, * a bottle of ouzo for 10€, * a bottle of wine for 25€, * a Greek foods basket for 160€, * a holiday for two in Greece for 5000€ (EU citizens only), * and an entire country's gratitude for 1 million €.
this will go as well as the american one :v:

if that hits the goal, the Greeks are in for one hell of a potato salad
Only way to fix Greece is for it to leave the EU, which every EU country should do since it's one gigantic mess.
apparently the dude was offering an island as a reward, but had to take that down when indiegogo realized he didn't actually have an island to offer
Doesn't matter anyway, it'll just get funneled back into the corrupted pockets.
Wouldn't all those perks just add more to the debt?
Wouldn't all those perks just add more to the debt?
I have a feeling not a lot of backers would actually ask for their reward were this campaign to succeed.

I don't understand the perks. He's saying that the Greeks will provide all the perks to the backers without actually having secured the perks. And what is to stop him running off with the money if he gets it? Imagine keeping that money in your bank account for even a few months. The interest alone would set him for life.

Another Tesco Meal deal? Ah well. You get some tasty Greek things. We promise that all profits will go to the Greek people and all products will be 100% Greek.
The difference between this and the american one is that nobody trusts that the american government will actually spend the money raised for erasing the debt. It would probably go straight into the pockets of some already rich fat politician.
We should just give Greece to the Germans and let them figure the mess out. Greece already owes them enough anyways.

They were more corrupt than our fucking government. That's the entire reason Syriza was elected...
I think Indiegogo might be out of their league with this one.
We should just give Greece to the Germans and let them figure the mess out. Greece already owes them enough anyways.
I still think annexing greece would be the only sane thing to do.
How would you run off with 1.6 trillion?
This is IndieGoGo we're talking about. Provided he makes true on all of the perks people have bought, he can do whatever he likes with the money left over. Say he spends even 0.6 trillion on the perks, he has a lot left over which he can legally do with as he pleases. Even then, if he can't make true on a perk, he can offer some sub-standard resolution. And what about the logistics of dealing with tens of thousands of perks? This is absolutely ridiculous and it will either fail or he'll be completely overwhelmed with the perks. Or, he'll use his newfound trillions to sue anyone who comes after him for not making true on the perks. [editline]30th June 2015[/editline]
From the indiegogo:
"I promise I will give the remaining money to 'the Greeks' " "the Greeks" being his nickname for his now wealthy family
Damn, why didn't I think of this.
Honestly I'd think Indiegogo would take the money and run if it ever filled up :v:
it's funny , imagine if it was flexible funding and he could cash everything people donated ;) also I'm surprised IGG not block it, cause it cost them money to do all the refunds because that's what happen when fixed fund campaign busts
People don't understand that debt is what helps keep a country alive. We solve 100% of the debt then what? We put ourselves right back in it.

Maybe they reached agreements with some payment providers though.
People don't understand that debt is what helps keep a country alive. We solve 100% of the debt then what? We put ourselves right back in it.
ok thats debatable and changes depending on country but what's certainly not debatable is that this level of debt is not keeping Greece alive and is infact killing Greeks
Debt isn't bad. What is bad is not being able to pay it back in time.
Only way to fix Greece is for it to leave the EU, which every EU country should do since it's one gigantic mess.
Can someone explain to me whats up with Brits and leaving the EU. Seems like its their solution to everything.
