BEIJING— A dispute over how Hong Kong residents should elect their local leader escalated on Saturday after pro-democracy student protesters forced their way into the port city’s government headquarters. While police have arrested dozens of people and used pepper spray in an attempt to suppress the protests, many are coming out to join the students in a show of support Police have said they must disperse in a matter of hours. Hong Kong television broadcasts of the police crackdown at Hong Kong’s government offices showed officers dragging and carrying away dozens of protesters - and in some cases tossing them aside violently.
Source(s) VOA Reuters

I haven't been following this close enough, but is there a possibility this could become Kiev 2.0?
I haven't been following this close enough, but is there a possibility this could become Kiev 2.0?
Doubt it, as this is China, and the Chinese military can be pretty effective.
Doubt it, as this is China, and the Chinese military can be pretty effective.
Well that's obvious, I meant if there could be violence coming from both sides instead of just from the chinese military.
I haven't been following this close enough, but is there a possibility this could become Kiev 2.0?
If this do break into a some kind of civil war, the Chinese military will literally take control of Hong Kong withinin a day.
I haven't been following this close enough, but is there a possibility this could become Kiev 2.0?
Not really, because technically China owns Hong Kong.
I haven't been following this close enough, but is there a possibility this could become Kiev 2.0?
i think the more serious question is will this become tienaman square v2:electric oh--god-they're-crushing-people-with-tanks course this time they'll have a damn hard time containing it and keeping word of it out of the mainland thanks to social media
It's interesting to see how y'all react to this from an international standpoint. From my perspective all I'm hearing (from the family) is that it's disrupting traffic, buisness and convience in general. Other stuff as well like how the protests will drive down stock and it's time to buy as well as genuine supprt for the cause but that hastily charging is not the way to go. It'll be cool to see other hkers views
Some of the pro-China propaganda are ridiculous. They are saying one of the leader of the protesters is trained by the USA, with the USMC teaching him CQC and stuffs. :v:
