But after exchanging their vows, the newlyweds found themselves in the middle of a huge anti-Nato rally, which was also targeting Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s budget cuts. Standing open-mouthed among protesters chanting ‘Whose streets? Our streets’, the furious couple - both Chicago residents- were caught on camera telling the wedding party to ‘get out of here’. Mrs Alberts, a spa aesthetician, was also heard asking passers-by if they had taken her bouquet, before leaving the scene. There were high tensions and frequent clashes between protesters and police during the rally, as violence broke out in pockets around the city. Police in riot gear surrounded the downtown areas of Grant Park and the Loop, and also patrolled train stations.
http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/dont-occupy-my-wedding-brides-big-day-ruined-as-antinato-protesters-descend-on-chicago-7770837.html Well it's not really news but it sure is a sensationalist headline. And it's not even the Daily Mail; The Independent's supposed to be one of the slightly less terrible newspapers.
You would have to be an idiot to not know about the protests. It's been all over the news for weeks now.
These protests have been happening for a whole year now, not just a few weeks
Uh the NATO Summit just started this weekend.
The independent is generally a good news paper, not quite the guardian sure but it's pretty good.
I know, that's why I'm kinda disappointed they're running this crap.
These protests have been happening for a whole year now, not just a few weeks
Anit-NATO =/= Occupy
they had a shitty wedding planner, an Occupy protest is a little more spontaneous, but a NATO summit protest they should have known way in advance to not plan a wedding in downtown chicago on the same day.
