He was 80 years old. Bugliosi, who had struggled with cancer in recent years, died Saturday night at a hospital in Los Angeles, his son, Vincent Bugliosi Jr., told The Associated Press. Bugliosi Jr. said his father had "an unflagging dedication to justice" in everything he did. As an author, Bugliosi Sr. was best known for "Helter Skelter," which was his account of the Manson Family and the killings of pregnant actress Sharon Tate and six others by followers of the cult leader, Charles Manson. Bugliosi had prosecuted Manson and his female followers, winning convictions in one of America's most sensational trials.
Source: Yahoo News Bad to speak "ill of the dead" and all but good riddance. Hopefully this puts an end to hide widespread propaganda using Manson as a scapegoat.

Because Bugliosi was as far as I'm aware a cool guy and decent lawyer: argued OJ was guilty, thought the Supreme Court was full of shit for giving the election to Bush instead of Gore and for going after Clinton the way they did... So I'm a bit confused as to why I should be happy about him dying. Especially when it somehow apparently involves him prosecuting Charles Manson specifically?
The article doesn't say anything bad about him. What did he do?
He wrote 'Helter Skelter' which began the popular misconception that Manson was a "cult leader who thought he was jesus and warped the minds of his followers to kill to spark a race war because of a beatles song." The worst part is some idiots still believe it. He used Manson as a scapegoat to explain why the kids killed, east to blame someone who spend his life in and out of reformatories. Manson was never given a fair trial and was blamed for others killing. The only person to testify against Manson was the one promised immunity if she did, by Bugliosi.
i know manson is a pretty despicable human being but i really enjoy his interviews. he has a nice and articulate voice when he isn't doing that whole weird babbling thing. [editline]9th June 2015[/editline] oh man if this is another instance of been misled by the media to think someone was bad but they is actually good then i will be pissed

Although, he is currently serving time for a crime he didn't commit. The killings were copycats to free Bobby Beausoleil (another 'family' member), although it's been twisted to be about a race war with Manson at the forefront of it.

So what's the truth behind Charles Manson and the Manson Family then? Because we all know that Manson never killed anybody himself, he always got his cronies to do it for him. He's insane, but nobody ever accused him of being stupid. He attacked a guy with a sword I distinctly remember, but then had one of the family members actually finish the job and kill him by his direct instructions. He never did his own dirty work. So why exactly are you so apologetic for Manson lol? I've heard people defend serial killers before, murderers on death row, rapists and violent pedophiles, muggers and burglars-- but Charles Manson? That's a new one for me.

Like I previously said, I don't consider him an innocent person by any stretch of the imagination. The story about him telling one of his family members to finish the job is a Bugliosi lie. Beausoleil killed Hinman, and still to this day denies Manson ever told him to do it, the only other person in the room was Susan Atkins who originally denied it also until she switched her story when she realised she was never getting out. After studying the trial and the 1000s of pages of transcripts, I've seen that he was never given a fair trial and Bugliosi's Helter Skelter theory has so many holes and contradictions. I suppose that's why I'm so 'apologetic' for Manson.
that's pretty neat that you're studying the manson case. is this for academic stuff or just like a hobby? are they any good manson books you'd recommend cos i'd be down for some alternative commentary on the whole debacle

I would recommend 'Manson in his own words' by Nuel Emmons, who was his cell mate for a long period of time.
jesus... thought charles manson died for a second. relieved :-)

You will do well in Criminology if you stay on such a noble path. Have you considered going into law enforcement?

That's always a possibility, although after graduation I begin an MSc in The Science of Criminal Profiling and hopefully training to be a Behavioural Analyst, but it all opens many doors.
