What's the best way to describe the gameplay of these?
What's the best way to describe the gameplay of these?
Tedious.
What's the best way to describe the gameplay of these?
Freelancer meets EVE Online meets a tycoon game. You start out in a small fighter or freighter, and can work your way up to 4 kilometer long capital ships. You actually pilot your ship, much like Freelancer. As of X3AP, there are 5 classes of fighter, 2 classes of corvettes, 3 classes of frigates, 5 classes of transporters, and 4 classes of capital ships It's possible to play the entire sandbox without killing anyone by trading or doing THINK or BUILD missions, or you can hunt down pirates (or be a pirate yourself) to make money off bounties or salvage. You can construct factories, and link them up to create massive self-sustaining mega-complexes that are measured in dozens of kilometers^3 and can out-produce entire empires. The economy is based on supply and demand, and everything (save for ships and upgrades) is produced by factories along a chain - solar power plants produce energy, which is then shipped to a wheat farm to produce wheat which is then shipped alongside more energy to a burger factory, which are used to feed the workers at a crystal construction plant as they use silicon from ore mines and energy from said solar power plants to assemble crystals which are then shipped to a variety of tech plants to produce weapons, shields, useful items, etc... Towards the late game, you may have fleets of hundreds of fighters and transporters, and dozens of capital ships on patrol. There are multiple plots to X3TC and X3AP which have unique rewards, though they aren't the main focus of the game. There is strong support for mods. You can, for example, fly the Normandy SR2 alongside your Gallente Megathron and Millenium Falcon. The games have a long learning curve, but they're well worth it, IMO. Keep in mind that they are fairly slow-paced games. The soundtrack alone is worth the the price.
They have linux binaries?? I never knew that! I just might actually get this then!
Excellent game series. Make sure to get them all. Terran Conflict in particular is awesome.
Paid $7.50. Hoping it'll be worth the money. It looks interesting, at least.
My father loves the X series. Just told him about this and, after the brief intermission of me going to the shitter, I come back to see that he has bought it.
I remember I got gifted these a long while back by someone on FP. I should get around to playing them as they've always tickled my fancy of galactic conquest.
Love this series. Been playing them for some time. Such a shame that X3 doesn't natively come with a 3D cockpit like X2 did.
Love this series. Been playing them for some time. Most of the cockpit mods just port X2's cockpits, but some have unique custom-built cockpits [t]http://i.imgur.com/wASRpsH.jpg[/t][t]http://i.imgur.com/1bqG2wm.jpg[/t] http://forum.egosoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=262446
What's the best way to describe the gameplay of these?
Freelancer meets a single player version of EvE. $6 minimal to get all of them is so worth it. I recommend Terran Conflict + Albion Prelude Expansion with the X Rebalanced Mod
