A new piece of software for the Windows version of Microsoft's motion-sensing Kinect peripheral could be used to teach cops how to deal with confrontational situations.

The system uses MILO Range, an "interactive use of force, tactical judgement training, and firearms training system", using video footage to simulate hostile situations, to which officers can respond to verbally, with a baton, a pistol, or just some sweet fight moves (above).
The videos kinda speak for themselves.

oh shit he tazed him into the WATER oh shit son
Some of that shit looked really silly, but other parts seemed like effective training tools.
GRAPHX
Special edition includes how many times can you shoot the bad guy just incase he's not dead
How would this work? Lets say I use the baton at x height, wouldn't that require a different video clip that using the baton at y height?
Would they take hundreds of videos and play the one that is most suitable to the approach?
respect my authoritah

What they normally do is put someone in one of these

Its fun after a while, then you get backhanded by the big foam man.
we need a better and more reliable 3d sensor that isnt as restrictive as the kinect. would be awesome.
With those M4 and glock accessories, you could sell this as the newer realistic COD and make a lot of money....

Kinect 2.0 is actually much better. Not sure why they're still using the shit one, maybe for cost reasons (Kinect 2.0 costs a hundred per model, Kinect 1.0 is like 20 bucks at gamestop or 5 at a pawn shop :v:)
Have you seen this.... WHOOT?!

I've used something pretty similar to this during a demo. It was only for room clearing and not the smoothest experience ever.
I'd pick role playing scenarios with other people over this method any day personally.
lol The other guy in the OC spray scene started laughing his ass off once that guy got sprayed in the face.

How many are going to want to play a CoD that requires physical exertion?
Man Peter Molyneux's Milo prototype sure did change a lot

Would he though? Beyond drowning from not being able to move, could he actually be shocked to death by this?
No snark, genuinely curious.

nice edit about white-on-white not being a story but to your question
there's probably a reason why that was under non-lethal force options
because that slides that from non-lethal to lethal, and then you can discuss whether the officer was justified about deploying taser considering he very likely could drown

White on white isn't a story, but then I had a genuine question.

no.
Honestly if they used a better looking, more polished engine for "GRAPHX" I think that would be a lot better than using a bunch of pre-recorded clips. It would be a smoother experience at least, since the clips are much less dynamic and sharply cut from clip to clip based on your actions.
Hell, throw an Oculus Rift into the equation and you have a completely immersive 3D experience.
This is cool, but could be vastly improved upon.
You can't use the kinect to train cops- it can't see black people.
Even if the graphics are low-key, these simulations are still super effective at preparing both trainees and hardened veterans for all kinds of situations without putting anyone at risk for any harm, unless they accidentally let go of the baton and nail someone in the face.
dont you guys see
its the beggining to robocop
Why would you ever taze someone on a jetty like that.
