Steve Bannon is heading to Rome on Thursday, days ahead of the Italian election, and has reportedly hinted of his support for the far-right candidate Matteo Salvini.
A meeting between the head of La Lega and the former White House strategist has not been planned, but Bannon has said he is heading to the Italian capital because he is intrigued by the election and believes it has major implications for Europe.
The news was first reported by the Italian daily newspaper La Stampa, and confirmed to the Guardian by a senior lawmaker with Salvini’s party, and personal friend of Bannon’s based in Rome.
According to La Stampa’s report, which did not name sources, Bannon has suggested the 4 March election could mark a new path in Europe and open the way to new populist movements to fight the influence of the German chancellor, Angela Merkel, in and the French president, Emmanuel Macron.

"If at first you don't succeed, try, try again." :v:
People were apathetic in America and with Brexit, they're waking up now. I don't see this working especially with Bannon's name tied to it.
What is it with far-right nationalists accepting help from foreigners? At least be consistent with your populist xenophobia.

My only guess is that Bannon is Catholic.
Salvini and the right can dream about winning the majority. It's gonna be a three way tie-up with Five Star and the center-left.

its not about being foreign
its about being white
its not about being foreign

But once they fix the 'white' thing, then it will be about the foreign thing.
Nazis were not squeamish about killing their own if they felt they didn't hold up to the highest of standards. They are the group perhaps the least interested in 'ADA compliance' that exists today. Heck, you're probably dead if you don't share the 'right fetishes'. When you found a group whose sole purpose is to 'kill the other' you'll just keep finding 'others' to kill until there's nobody left but one person.
Are their opinion polls out for the various candidates?
its not about being foreign

I was under the impression that was strictly an American thing with being far-right.
I mean, look at the UK in regard to Polish immigrants.
In the US, you can't say "oh I don't want him here, he's Polish" because national heritage like that has largely been lost or mixed in with other things. For example, my mother's maiden name is German but her heritage is almost entirely Irish.

By law we are not allowed to show any polls for a few days prior to the election as to keep it secret.

Are you Italian? I'm curious, mind if I ask you/other Italians here elaborate a bit on what your current political landscape looks like?

That's actually a good idea

I'm not sure I get this part though. Why exactly does Bannon (and so many others) want the EU to fail? Are they admitting that they consider the EU a hindrance to their lust for power and ability to kick out anyone who isn't as white as chalk?

Two words:
fucked up
its like this guy never heard of ww2, which is weird because he's like 60.
why is it we continually reward the worst people and allow them to keep doing this shit
he doesn-'t even have any ideology except to be against a nebulous cloud of what he blindly labels liberal. i cant concieve of what world he would want to live in given his vast wealth, his health, and his life really, has been a product of a globally connected liberal society
What is it with far-right nationalists accepting help from foreigners? At least be consistent with your populist xenophobia.
Because he's a conservative leader figure. And they only care about things that directly benefit them
new populist movements
Call it what they are.
Fascist movements.
Our Democratic Party has done nothing since the days of Berlinguer, there hasn't been a strong candidate in forever, not one has any integrity
The ones with integrity are unfortunately right wing: they don't betray their sexist, racist, morally wrong nature
M5S is just an opposition party, it exists for the sole purpose of being contrarian and doesn't have any realistic platform or strong candidate
Lega & Forza Italia is where the assholes reside, and where enemies of democracy and freedom lay
[editline]1st March 2018[/editline]
I'll extend on that
PD's last strong candidate was probably Prodi, he was the only one who actually stood up to Berlusconi, but the latest have been less than average and not convincing. Renzi is a hack
M5S is, again, an opposition party, founded by a comedian, another one of these celebrity candidates that should just stay home (alongside Trump & Berlusconi... odd how all of these outsiders have been worse than the norm) and Di Maio is an illiterate idiot who would make (some) vaccines not mandatory. superb
Fratelli D'Italia, Forza Italia and Lega (originally Lega Nord, they used to shit on us southerners for the same reasons they now shit on immigrants, they just switched targets but the rethoric hasn't changed, they steal our jobs those lazy brown shits) are full of racists and backwards people who love getting fucked by their representatives like Salvini, Meloni & Berlusconi
There are minor choices like +Europa, but it's more about choosing who not to put into power than believing in a truly great candidate
That's actually a good idea
they do still exist however, they're just a bit old. (I mean just by a few days, but a lot can change in a short time.)
So I decided to look at the link posted by Lurker, and apparently a fascist party has 2.0 in the oppinion polls. It also has this logo:

Can fascist please be original with their flag designs? :v:

Right???? Fucking Umbrella Corp

Been wondering that myself. I'm a big EU-fan, and I can understand that people of member countries can oppose it. But why are some external non-Europeans so involved in it?
Shouldn't it be an eagle or something, why a turtle?

See the turtle of enormous girth; on his shell he holds the earth.

You have to understand that America has a much more diverse background in terms of ethnicity due to our history of immigration than perhaps Poland would.

Fuckin' xenophobic, racist, self-important, genocide-advocatin', anti-semetic, "fuck you got mine" capitalist, "holy roller" flat-Earthers who are trying to become the big hooby-doobies what-be-in-charge.:ohno:
I'm really suprised he's not helping the guy who's got the cult-like personality who is running after being released from jail.
If I was a far-right candidate the last thing I'd want would be Steve fucking Bannon "helping" me out

Is Bannon white? He always seemed a sort of crusty reddish pink to me. Occasionally nearly purple.
The Italians should just vote for John Oliver. He is loads better than the current options they have.
