An Irish couple are planning to defy the law and get married later this month, despite being brother and sister.
The pair, who already have a child together, have been warned that it is illegal to marry a sibling but say they are determined to do so anyway and spend their lives together.
The couple, who have assumed the pseudonyms of James and Maura to protect their identities, claim they were unaware that they shared a father when they first met and fell in love.
They say their attraction was so strong that within just one week of meeting they felt that they had known each other for a lifetime and within two years their son, Mark, was born.
Speaking to the Irish Mail on Sunday, 'James' explained that despite setbacks they will be able to marry by the end of the month.
"We were aiming for Christmas but we have decided to do it sooner," he declared.
"Maura has got her wedding dress, we've ordered identical suits for myself and our son.
"It will be a very small wedding. We have two witnesses who we know very well and they know about our situation.
"I don't know whether our father will come or whether any of our parents will be there.
"Our son is getting excited about the wedding. He knows what is happening. As for Maura and me, it hasn't really sunk in yet that we're getting married."
When James' mother first learned who Maura's father was she was shocked and told her son the disturbing truth about their incestuous relationship.
James and Maura explained that it was only through DNA tests and constant questioning that they discovered the full details of how they came to be half-brother and sister.
They say that in the '80s James' mother dated a man named Tom for five weeks and never told him she was expecting his child.
She was in a new relationship by the time James was born and named this partner as James's father on the baby's birth certificate.
However, when his true father returned four years later and questioned if 'James' was his, a complex court case denied him access to the boy.
James stated, "The way I see it, if the system can know about things and hide the facts, then I can do the same. They turned a blind eye and so can we.
"People can criticise and say it is not right but they should say the same about what was done to me in the family law courts."
"Our son"?
It's too late :(
How are they going to do that exactly if it's illegal
Lots of determination doesn't mean jack if you can't actually do it
What the fuck, I read this exact story atleast 3 months ago

Good job reading the article, they spent 2 years together and had a child before they were even aware they had the same father.
Good job reading the article, they spent 2 years together and had a child before they were even aware they had the same father.
I did read it. It's kinda messed up that they're going through with it
Arent these the same people who didnt know they were brother and sister?
Ugh, inbreeding. There's a reason it's supposed to make you feel sick.
Kid is going to have an immune system like a damp towel siting in a low pool of stagnant water.
I suppose they didn't know, but I mean getting married afterwards... :smith:

You do know that takes a few generations?
You do know that takes a few generations?
Get out of here Stalker, where's my Exoskeleton.
Even first generation inbreds are more susceptible to negative family traits, the kid essentially got screwed over. He's going to be less immune to some diseases and conditions, Say if arthritis runs in the family, or heart disease, he's going to have a high chance of getting it.
It appears that they didn't know, but get married afterward and celebrating the ordeal..
Their lives, their choise, I just hope the kid will make it, though.

It's illegal to kill people, but I can still do it. How is this possibly by your logic?
Well Marriage and killing people aren't exactly the same thing. Marriage is a binding legal contract, as well as just the ceremony. They might get married, but I don't think they'll be recognized by the state as being married.

I'm guessing some people just play too much Oblivion... Guards are telepathic motherfuckers, the moment you comitt a crime, it's signalled to them through a 200 mile radius.

Marrige has to do with love, or when you buy a Russian chick, either way, a lisence is not needed.
How is this news? Are we to report on every sexually oriented crime ever committed?
I could kind of understand cousins (not direct cousins) but sibling is kinda ew, but if it makes them happy then whatever.

it's facepunch

Facepunch needs something to cry about.
They have different mothers, so it's not 100% inbreeding.

Well, technically they're half brother and sister. They only share a father, not a mother. It would be very weird to be dating a chick for a couple years before you realized that you're actually family. Once you're that far in, I suppose it would be hard to turn back. Still pretty wrong though.

Yeah, the kids are just going to have 5 and a half toes instead of 6.

Because taking a life is the same as joining yourself in a legal marriage with another person
Even if they do hold a wedding ceremony, they won't be legally married
Don't be try to be a smartass if you're not smart
It's disgusting, but then again they are only HALF brother and sister. Which means biologically it halves the chances of birth defects etc. I personally wouldn't do it and would be disgusted at the thought but each to their own I guess. I don't think there's really a law about half brothers/sisters getting married.
