• 190 million year old dinosaur nest site found

A nesting site for dinosaur eggs found in South Africa is 100 million years older than the previous oldest site. Palaeontologists found 10 separate nests, each containing clutches of up to 34 eggs measuring 6-7cm. The fossils are of the prosauropod Massospondylus, a relative of the long-necked sauropods such as Diplodocus. They suggest that Massospondylus returned to the site repeatedly, laying their eggs in groups in the earliest-known case of "colonial nesting". The 190-million-year-old finds also included embryonic dinosaur skeletons, and are described in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. They were found in a 25m stretch of rock in South Africa's Golden Gate Highlands National Park. The researchers suggest that many more sites remain embedded in the rock, which will be exposed as natural weathering processes continue. But the current find already vastly extends what is known about dinosaurs in their earliest days on Earth. "Even though the fossil record of dinosaurs is extensive, we actually have very little fossil information about their reproductive biology, particularly for early dinosaurs," said David Evans, associate curator of vertebrate palaeontology at the Royal Ontario Museum. "This amazing series of 190-million-year-old nests gives us the first detailed look at dinosaur reproduction early in their evolutionary history, and documents the antiquity of nesting strategies that are only known much later in the dinosaur record." It looks like my dog when it's asleep. Except well, dead.
Dinosaurs aren't real! CHECKMATE ATHEISTS.
Earth is only 3,000 years old... Clearly fake. In all seriousness, this is pretty awesome. It is amazing how much stuff is on Earth that we haven't found yet.
Oh it must have been another test of our faiths put there by god. Damn those dinos sure tricked me.
"Even though the fossil record of dinosaurs is extensive, we actually have very little fossil information about their reproductive biology, particularly for early dinosaurs,"
Things like this has always baffled me. It really shows how little we actually know about dinosaurs and that some information is speculative at best.

Hell, look at how dinosaurs were portrayed for decades... And then we found ways to map genomes and what not and found out they aren't that closely related to reptiles, but with birds... So they went from dull, scaly creatures, to these elaborate beautiful feather plume creatures. Dinosaurs are kind of like space... We know it exists and now stuff about it, but really still have no fucking idea.
Goddamn you godforsaken atheists! Can't you see it's all devils plan to take away your eternal salvation in heaven?! Turn to Jesus and repent and you shall be saved! ~PRaISe JEEBUS~
Very good that we find a new fresh evidence around the news.. I mean please, 6000 year old planet? How is that helpf-.. that's like lying, and lying is probably a sin of sorts right?
Isnt it quite amazing how this has been lying in the ground for 190 million years. I mean, think about it. 190 MILLION years. And now it has finally surfaced, felt the warmth of the sun and the softness of the wind. If it had emotions, it would be pretty happy.
What the hell are all the Christianity jokes for? There was nothing relating to religion in the article at all.
What the hell are all the Christianity jokes for? What kind of shit are you guys on?
A guy at my work doesn't believe in dinosaurs. I'm going to have fun telling him about this later. He's a home schooled Christian.
What the hell are all the Christianity jokes for? There was nothing relating to religion in the article at all.
They're the ones who always start the arguments.
I'm a Christian and I believe that dinosaurs existed. In fact, every Christian that I know believes that dinosaurs once existed. What kind of shit are you guys on?
Some of the screwball Christians believe dinosaurs never existed. A few of those same ones believe that we've never been to the moon, or space, and that the Earth is flat.
I love dinosaurs. Rawr.
Earth is only 3,000 years old... Clearly fake.
Actually, it's more like 8000 years according to the scriptures, according to religious mathematicians who calculated that from the line of descendants between David and Jesus and pinpoint all of their ages at exactly 120 years because that's how old Moses got. Then they went even further and claimed that Adam and Eve lived to 900 and their children did the same... Yeah.
In all seriousness, this is pretty awesome. It is amazing how much stuff is on Earth that we haven't found yet.
Just imagine all of the things we'll never find. Now imagine how that rate of undiscovery will grow hundredfold with a Mormon president. That is all.

Sometimes it makes me embarrassed to be a homeschooled Christian. :smith:
Some of the screwball Christians believe dinosaurs never existed. A few of those same ones believe that we've never been to the moon, or space, and that the Earth is flat.
Nobody ever believed the Earth was flat.
I beg to differ, there's some nutcases out there that believe the Earth is flat. Edit: What, Are you saying I was hallucinating?
I beg to differ, there's some nutcases out there that believe the Earth is flat. Edit: What, Are you saying I was hallucinating?
I want you to find me a single example of someone that ever believed the Earth is flat except from someone that jumped on the bandwagon of lies by atheist activism to denounce religion. Don't get me wrong, I'm the least religious person that walks this rock, but the "Religious people think the Earth is flat." is just wrong.
I didn't say that just religious people believe it, it's just the really crazy ones (I know there's other crazy people out there besides Christians, mind you) like to believe these things more then people who don't have a religion, probably because there's quite a few Christians that like to denounce anything scientific. Also, proof: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flat_Earth_Society
Not a dinosaur, clearly an alien
Creationists laughing stock of Christianity anyway, nobody listens to them.
I wish that was true.
Guys, satan clearly put dinosaur bones in the ground to tempt us.
Fuck yeah dinosaurs.
Yeah, they're called Creationists, they're pretty much the laughing stock of Christianity anyway, nobody listens to them.
Uh. Christianity IS creationism. Get the fuck off my planet!
