Yah, he is basically is right.
Rushed out, undeniably fun, but the whole time I was begging for some more content then just barebones shit you expect from a F2P.
lmao 7:33 his team lost and just quits to main menu
I'll wait for it to go on sale, MP looks phenomenal, but I'm not gonna deal with headaches on Origin for it.
It is incredible, honestly, how it can stand its ground thanks to its core gameplay alone. There is really not much else to it.
What Joe said about the game is right, for the most part, but It even lacks basic functionalities Joe didn't mention- No teambalance and No level or skill-tiered matchmaking, which are a nightmare.
I also do not agree with Joe's criticism about the game modes. They are all fantastic. Honorable mention to capture the flag.
Imho the game hic et nunc already reks all the competition (played the second to last installments of cod and BF). I hope future updates will fine-tune and improve it.

Origin's a fine client, you're not gonna have any more headaches using it than you would Steam.
Also sup with his origin token stuff? Never happened to me, my brother, or heard about it ever.
Damnit Joe. 'I didn't like the story/the story wasn't good. I'm going to spoil it all because fuck you'
The main game consists of the different gamemode. While I agree that the campaign is not that great, I'm having loads of fun doing attrition and CTF.
I'm just really dissappointed that Pilot Hunter is just Attrition where the real players give the points.
Otherwise one of the biggest fun in any game I've ever had. The movement is simply amazing.

It sounds like losing connection to the probably-Origin-hosted servers for even a moment immediately boots you out of a server, but that's just my guess.

If you played the "campaign" you would know how retarded you sound right about now.
It literally could be, "Hey pilot, go kill bad guy x and secure point y" and you would care about it just as much.
I'm surprised how critical Joe's review became. With how happy he was in the beginning I was expecting 20 minutes of "It's so fun!" It's good review overall.
I played the Titanfall beta non-stop, but I'm just feeling a $60 purchase for a game with so little content. I feel like I have already had my fill of the game through the beta.

even if it was OK content with a generic uninteresting story I'd expect at least SOME level of respectful restraint in letting people experience shit like the space scene and the beam cannon thing for themselves instead of playing it five times over whilst whining about how pointless the spoken part of it is
A solid and fair review. I like how Joe gives it you you straight. Sure, he's a bit unprofessional compared to a lot of other reviewers, but he's fair and even if he likes a lot of the game, that doesn't mean he ignores the problems. Good one him.
As much as I am loving- and I mean LOVING my time with this game, a 7/10 is a fair score.
I don't usually cross-post, but I kinda explained my thoughts in a previous thread:
Yeah, I can't reccomend the game for 60 bucks, the content's just not there to justify it.
But if I'm being totally honest? I don't regret spending 60 bucks on it at all. The game feels incredible, and it's not only the most refreshing take on the modern FPS that I've seen in a long long LONG time, it's easily the most fun I've had with a multiplayer FPS, if not multiplayer game, in years.
Fantastic game despite the low quality of the campaign. And some small issue here an there really grind my gears, most notably: The matchmaking is downright awful at times and places me on totally unbalanced teams consistently, and secondly, Anti-cheat is currently non-existent (though they intend to activate it soon and I haven't had trouble with cheaters, but not having it on launch is just silly as fuck).
So yeah, I'd say if you can, wait for the price to drop. The content is limited, Map Packs are right around the corner, and the campaign is just not worth noting. But I still feel even then I've gotten my money's worth out of it just from how much fun I've been having alone.
So yeah, Joe make's some very valid points, and I agree. The game feels content limited, and I'd say that's rightfully a reason to not buy the game at full price. The content the game DOES have however (sans the crummy campaign) is nothing short of spectacular. The game flows and controls amazingly. Playing as a pilot is fast-paced, heavily movement oriented, and feels right in every way. Titan's feel strong, powerful and most importantly, satisfying- but not imbalanced. The maps (save for one or two) are all well designed, and I can't say that there are any I straight up hate. Sure there are some I personally don't care for, but that's my preference, and I've heard others list them among their favorite maps. And a selection of 15 maps at launch is actually pretty damn good. The weapon selection is admittedly limited, but each gun feels different. the arsenal is less focused less on quantity and more focused on variety. Weapons handle differently instead of relying on minor stat changes to pass for "variety". The AI, while admitedly totally stupid, makes battles not only feel huge and immersive, but serve a vital purpose. They make sure the game never slows to a crawl, and function similarly to creeps in mobas (as said by Joe). They aren't a threat on their own, but help you build up your score and help you land your titan sooner, so a good player doesn't just focus on players, but on grunts as well, and even less skilled players don't feel useless because killing grunts is just as important in Attrition (essentially TDM) as killing pilots. But grunts aren't just cannon fodder they make the battle's feel alive. You have AI soldiers pulling the wounded out of fire or hacking into hardpoint terminals, cheering you on whenever you help turn the tide of a fight, Spectre robots choking out and tossing away enemy soldiers with no emotions, or lunging off of rooftops ontop of unlucky victims. All these things are just tiny details that most of the time, you may not even notice, but go such a long way to make the fights feel huge even though it's just 6v6.
But now I'm just waxing lyrical. If I needed to go into negatives, I'd say the campaign is the biggest one. It's just a missed opportunity. The story was boring, the IMC are made into cartoon villains, and Milita into the decedents of space Jesus, the objectives are monotnous, and there's nothing to set it apart from the classic multiplayer. Literally. It is just standard multiplayer matches with a scripted event or two at the start, a briefing in the lobby screen, and some voice acting thrown over the gameplay that you can't pay attnetion to because you're too busy playing the game. Easily the biggest disappointment with the game. Secondly, I'd say it's a shame that the game types are simply... serviceable to say the least. You have Attrition, your standard kill everything mode, Hardpoint, a standard conquest or domination mode, Capture the Flag, a standard CTF mode, Last Titan Standing, where everyone spawns in Titans with no respawns and the team to lose them all loses, and Pilot Hunt, where you score by killing pilots (other players). There's really nothing to interesting there, nothing unique to the game save for maybe Last Titan Standing I guess. They're not bad by any stretch, just not interesting or unique. But another big problem is as Joe mentioned, the lack of private matches or servers or anything. Not much to say there other than I wish it was included.
To sum up my thoughts on the game. It's fantastic. If you look solely at what the game has I'd say it's without a doubt one of the best FPS games I've played in years, the real problem with the game, is what it doesn't have. But if you can get it on sale, do it. You will not be sorry.
Call of duty with mechs
Call of duty with mechs
You never played it, did you.
I feel like the primary problem was that respawn wanted to be independent and not be slaves to investors or a parent company but they didn't have enough cash to make the game like they wanted hence the exclusive deal with Microsoft and lack of content in areas.

I wouldn't doubt it. Respawn has pedigree, but Titanfall is a very risky title for today's game industry and pedigree only gets you so far. Considering it's their first big release, they needed to hit it out of the park and their only chance was to strike a deal with a big name.
And I'd say they came damn close to doing just that. This game laid down some seriously impressive groundwork and serves as a proof of concept and then some. And given EA already has plans for it, and the game is doing quite well, I'm already looking forward to what Respawn can pull off in Titanfall 2 when it comes time. They've gotten the gameplay down to a tee, and if they really want to make a great game, what they need to do now is tweak and fine-tune what the have, and focus on new content to make up for the lack it currently has. The lack of content and crummy campaign turned me off at first, but getting into what the game does well, I'm genuinely impressed with the quality that Respawn produced here, and if they keep it up, I can see Titanfall become a new big name.

Honestly, knowing him, I highly doubt it.
I'm so damn confused why people were hyped for this. It looks like it can be fun for like 5 or 10 hours max and then forget about it. And that price tag.. geesh...
Having given the review a good chance to sink in, I'd say Joe's made the best review on the game yet. It's fair, honest, and doesn't sugar coat the bullshit. A [sp]7/10[/sp] is precisely what I'd have given this game, even though I'm really REALLY loving my time with it.
I'm so damn confused why people were hyped for this. It looks like it can be fun for like 5 or 10 hours max
I said the same thing until I tried the Beta. Believe me, the game is insanely enjoyable and people were hyped because it is a damn fine game with some flaws aside. In my time with the beta, I played ONLY the attrition game mode, and was limited to the TWO maps available, and I racked up 24 hours of gameplay without getting bored. Now with more gametypes, maps, titans, weapons, unlocks, etc. I've found myself in the "One more round... One more round..." predicament constantly.
I really mean it when I say don't knock it until you try it. The gameplay is a perfect step in the right direction for a modern FPS. The gunplay feels fast paced and satisfying. Limited content aside, I'd say it's a damn fine example of a new take on the FPS compared to the crap we're force-fed today.
But yeah, price tag's steep. The content just isn't there to justify it. But if you wait for it to drop, you will not be disappointed with the gameplay in any way.
Call of duty with mechs
Call of duty + Mirrors edge + Hawken + lost planet + brink (ish, with the turrets and the fact that spectres are hackable)
Call of duty with mechs
To be honest, what he said is slightly right.
The movement feels COD, Loading screen looks the same as COD. I don't point that is is 100% the same as COD but it really feels like it is.

I'm sorry but that' is so not right. If you stick to the ground, maybe. But if you play it vertically and stay agile, it's a hell of a lot more mobile than CoD.
I mean, pull this off in CoD and get back to me, and maybe I'll reconsider.

I didn't know CoD invented loading screens with the picture of the map you're about to play on.
In general it seemed pretty promising, but the end product still left more to be desired. The combat seems alright although the Pilot combat commits the cardinal sin of regenerating health coupled with an invisible health bar, yet the verticality and openness makes it SO much better, but in terms of content there just doesn't seem to be as much as there should have been. Plus the campaign was far less of the slightly more dynamic Brink style of things, and more like the traditional MMS singleplayer bullcock distending our collective intestines into scripted linearity.
I just hope they actually manage to expand the game in terms of content and variety to maintain popularity, otherwise it'll probably give the MMS capitalist investors that dreaded "confirmation bias" of "change is not profitable", resulting in little change
I hope in the future if they add more customization they don't overdo it with the weapons.
I really like how balanced everything feels about the game, with the exception of some smart pistol deaths this is probably the least I've ever been mad at a modern mp game when I die.
