Only source I could find post town hall for now:
During the town hall event with MSNBC’s Chris Hayes, Sanders laid out how Trumpcare will hurt those who need coverage the most, like coal miners in West Virginia, and mainly benefit the wealthy. Not only did Sanders debunk the myth that Trump and Republicans constantly feed to their base of supporters that there isn’t enough room in the budget to help those who need it most, but he also convinced one coal miner – a man who voted for Trump – that it’s time to make health care in the United States a universal right.
Tiny parts from the "2016 good ending" universe are seeping through the cracks and entering this universe. Thanks Large Hadron Collider.
The great uniter.
What could have been and what should have been if the democratic party (and many dem. voters) wasn't so blind.
We could have had Bernie. We could. Have fucking had. Bernie.
Man Bernie has spent so much time post-election visiting WV, I'm starting to feel like we're his chosen people.
Reminder that instead of getting a good authentic person who empathizes with people who disagree with him, we got a robot named Hillary Clinton who's arguments could be boiled down to "Trump is racist and sexist, if you vote for him you are too".
Bernie would've won ;^(
What is great about Sanders is the amount of effort he continues to put in.
People questioned this mans age as a potential president. He is driven and focused. He has a lot of energy.
Don't see much of Hillary to be honest.
Some of those miner stories at the town hall were very sad and this new health care bill is just going to make things worse.
And remember: they voted for this
And remember: they voted for this
They got played and brainwashed like the rest of them. You can almost see it on their faces in there, the extremely sad "holy shit..what have I voted for? What the fuck have I done..?" It's a clear look of shame.
Bernie could have won, he actually got people excited. Clinton was an eh candidate that focused on her not being as bad as the alternative but Trump's success was that he got people going, he spoke to them in a way that inspired loyalty.
And remember: they voted for this
So? People can have a change of heart once faced with the facts. They may have voted for trump and his original ideals. But now that it is clear as day that Trump is a fraud and was just blowing smoke up peoples asses they're left feeling betrayed.
People need to stop being smug (not directed towards you Code, but in general) towards these people. They may have voted for some ideals spoken of originally and people can have a change in heart and change their stance on an issue once it comes to fruition.

Well, consider that WV is one of the poorest states in the Union with an economy entirely dependent on King Coal, and it used to be a blue state before it started shifting red in the last 20 years or so. West Virginia is the kind of place where the DNC lost the lower classes, where they hear "liberals" and think of rich UC Berkeley kids ranting about white privilege that a poor, unemployed coal miner can't imagine having. It's exactly the kind of place where people like Sanders need to go and actually talk to people, listen to their problems, and then once he's won their trust, show just how much the Republicans are lying to them and fucking them over.
And remember: they voted for this
On average these people aren't stupid or evil, they're just desperate, and they've been constantly lied to and played for suckers by someone who promised to make their problems and fears go away.

But hasn't the information about the Trump administrations shady shit not always been available? Like, if you don't try to understand what you are voting for, then you might end up like the women who had her face eaten

They probably just didn't take it seriously, if they heard about it at all, or discounted what they heard as "it's probably not like that" or "the media is blowing everything out of proportion again." It's getting easier and easier to do that these days, especially if you don't like the people saying it, or think they hate you. Hell, I'm a moderate conservative who supports things like climate change regulations, prison/criminal justice reform, financial reform, universal healthcare, separation of church and state, etc. -- but when I go into a room full of hard-left progressives talking about how America sucks and capitalism and religion are evil I immediately start wanting to register Republican, go to church, buy a Ford F150 and an American flag shirt, and not listen to anything they say. And I'm a moderate.
In the previous episode of this serious Sanders was at a town in Wisconsin and he had 4 out of 5 Trump voters, some Democrat, some Republican, say they thought his promises about Muslim registries etc. were just campaign bluster that Congress would block, and they were appalled at the idea of them actually going through.

Jesus christ he makes it so easy.

If Hillary was out there doing similar things I guarantee you'd see "She cant stay out of the spotlight CAN she?? Doesn't she understand the people dont want her GLOBALIST policies??" on Facepunch.
bernie looks like he actually listens to what these people have to say and genuinely cares for them
Man Bernie has spent so much time post-election visiting WV, I'm starting to feel like we're his chosen people.
Nah, you're a state that voted for Trump that has a Democrat senator up for re-election in 2018. This is how he's trying to make sure the dems don't lose even more ground.
Jesus christ he makes it so easy.
It's not hard. Just listen to the people and guide them in the right direction. It's such a shame that most politicians downright refuse to do their job, they should be looking out for the best interests and welfare of those that put their livelihood in their hands.
They should feel ashamed for taking advantage of their own countrymen and abusing their trust the way so many politicians choose to do. It's a travesty.
Well Hillary is just being quiet because Obama told her to. It's good strategically that way. Bernie ruffling feathers like this post-election is not a good thing to be doing.
Or at least, that's what the Hillary supporter in my house told me. :hammered:
And remember: they voted for this
Given a choice between a politician who said she was going to eliminate coal entirely (their jobs), and another who said he was going to bring it back, who do you think they would pick?

Why has this election broken people's brains

It's just a shame he was lying
I think Bernie not getting the presidency is going to be chalked as one of the great tragedies of modern history

What feathers is Bernie ruffling, lol? He's connecting with the people, gauging their responses, getting them to understand that what's going on in this country isn't alright and if we want to stop some of it, it's gonna take everyone, including the Trump supporters as well.
I'm glad Bernie is as vocal as he is, no matter if he won or lost, he still fights for the people and their rights. He's an honorable man, and I hope he doesn't have to become quiet because "oh no he's gonna piss some people off!!!" because we need someone like Bernie right now.
I honestly don't think he was lying, I just think he's grossly incompetent. I'm sure in his mind bringing back coal is as simple as telling someone else to go and do it and it will be done the next day.

"Alright class, now turn your history books to Chapter 35: 2016, The Year America Done Fucked Up"
Bernie would have slapped Trump's shit in the general election, without a doubt.
Question: What can realistically be done to help stimulate the economy in towns that once survived on coal mining? We know those jobs aren't really coming back.

Build a new industry there. Wind, solar, if they're viable, or offer tax credits/benefits to major corporations to build manufacturing plants there. Manufacturing jobs need to come back to the US desperately.
