A Laval mayoral candidate is under police protection after alerting authorities and the media to a plot involving former disgraced mayor Gilles Vaillancourt. Claire Le Bel said she recently received a phone call from Vaillancourt in which he offered her not just political advice, but access to immense amounts of money. According to Le Bel, former Laval mayor Vaillancourt, who resigned in disgrace following allegations of corruption and is currently accused of being a criminal mastermind who bilked taxpayers out of tens of millions of dollars, is still trying to maintain control of politics in Laval. In a conversation she recorded and gave to police, Vaillancourt said an organization to control Laval is already in place.

Le Bel agreed to have Vaillancourt meet her in the Option Laval offices, and the two met face-to-face with another witness present. Le Bel recorded that conversation and gave the recording to authorities. She would not provide the taped conversation to media outlets Tuesday due to the police investigation, but had provided the tape to Radio-Canada, who went public with the city Monday.

Le Bel went public with the news about Vaillancourt's offer on Monday and later that day one of her political aides was roughed up while driving. Reny Gagnon was driving on Highway 40 in Laval when another car came alongside and a passenger somehow caused a flat fire to Gagnon's car, When Gagnon stopped, two other cars stopped as well, and two men exited their vehicles and attacked Gagnon. He was not badly hurt and is now recovering. Le Bel is now under police aide while the Surete du Quebec investigate her recording and the attack on her aide.
**SOURCE** Basically the former mayor stepped down because he was tied up in a corruption investigation but then he tries to offer his services to the next runner for mayor who records it and sends it to the press because she's not taking this shit. Within 24 hours one of her aides are roughed up on the side of the highway as a warning for her to not fuck about with what's going on. Quebec is one of the most corrupt region in all of North America. There's already corruption investigations in construction, union, government and city-level politics with known connections to the mob and the Hells Angels. It's almost impossible to discuss one part without finding even more corruption.

If you think Quebec is corrupt come to chicago. There's a reason the Dailey family are treated like kings.
Quebec is the single most corrupt region in all of North America next to DC.
I'm pretty sure many Latin regions of North America are more corrupt than Quebec and DC combined
I look at mafia corruption more as a business opportunity, rather than a burden. But that's most Kimberley due to my Italian heritage.
Just a normal day in the province of Quebec! I think a lot of people are used to it now. My favorite corruption story is when the interim mayor of Montreal was arrested for corruption while he was replacing the previous mayor who resigned because of some shady stories.
I look at mafia corruption more as a business opportunity, rather than a burden. But that's most Kimberley due to my Italian heritage.
Haha yeah the benefits of organized crime are great including and .

It kinda makes me glad our mayor is only accused of smoking crack.
the worst we do around here is just not shake each others hands if we are mad
I look at mafia corruption more as a business opportunity, rather than a burden. But that's most Kimberley due to my Italian heritage.
Ummm I have an Italian heritage as well with family who have been in the Mafia in the past (Sicilian, go figure) and I still can't see how Mafia corruption is not a burden but a business opportunity?
It kinda makes me glad our mayor is only accused of smoking crack.
well there's also the public drunkenness and that DUI in the states
Ummm I have an Italian heritage as well with family who have been in the Mafia in the past (Sicilian, go figure) and I still can't see how Mafia corruption is not a burden but a business opportunity?
It just depends what side of it you're on I guess.
Oh I see breakyourfac is glorifying the mafia again. He thinks corruption is a business opportunity and not a stranglehold on society that decays it from within and keeps many nations backwards and poor
Ummm I have an Italian heritage as well with family who have been in the Mafia in the past (Sicilian, go figure) and I still can't see how Mafia corruption is not a burden but a business opportunity?
Don't bother with people like breakyourfac, his sympathetic tongue is lodged right in the cretinous anus of mafia types, some people are easily charmed by sociopaths in suits and often wish to become soulless beings themselves.

Like I guess at one point I was charmed by them as well and still think my family history with it is cool (St.Valentines day massacre, got killed by Al Capone with a baseball bat, other stuff) but still it's stupid to think it's not a burden on society, like that's just denying the truth.
yeah i imagine being a victim of the mafia's brutal and destructive crime would change your perspective
I think he just likes them because of his Italian background, not even because there is actual history or something which makes even less sense.
I look at mafia corruption more as a business opportunity, rather than a burden. But that's most Kimberley due to my Italian heritage.
I have Irish heritage but you don't see me glamorizing religious terrorism
I think he just likes them because of his Italian background, not even because there is actual history or something which makes even less sense.
most of the mafia's victims are Italian. [editline]9th October 2013[/editline]
I have Irish heritage but you don't see me glamorizing religious terrorism
you shame your ancestors zeke
well there's also the public drunkenness and that DUI in the states
At least he's not corrupt.
most of the mafia's victims are Italian. [editline]9th October 2013[/editline]
Yeah Henry hill explains that pretty good in the movie 'Goodfellas'
For most of the guys, killing's got to be accepted. Murder was the only way that everybody stayed in line. You got out of line, you got whacked. Everybody knew the rules. But sometimes, even if people didn't get out of line, they got whacked. I mean, hits just became a habit for some of the guys. Guys would get into arguments over nothing and before you knew it, one of them was dead. And they were shooting each other all the time. Shooting people was a normal thing. It was no big deal.

Yeah Henry hill explains that pretty good in the movie 'Goodfellas'
Nice source.
Yeah Henry hill explains that pretty good in the movie 'Goodfellas'
Woah put that way of course the mafia is a major boon for the local community
I look at mafia corruption more as a business opportunity, rather than a burden.
so wait first you tell us you pay poor people to eat dog shit, and now you're admiring the mob and trying desperately to deny their horrible crimes you're kind of a dirtbag man
No dude it was one poor person, and he's our friend. [editline]10th October 2013[/editline] In not denying their crimes at all, wtf I just posted about how they are cold blooded killers.
It's corrupt as fuck, but pretty sure most places in North America are corrupted as fuck too they just don't get caught.
To have an idea on how corrupt Quebec is, It's like New York in the 20's, the Mob is so heavily involved in everything.
