Real Steel History (hahahahah as if this thing even had actual history)
The SCAR-L's the soccer ball of the US Armed Forces. Kicked around by different branches, ending up all over the damn place, and never finding a true home. That's pretty much the best I can do to annotate the history of this FN gun.
What really happened was that the armed forces did end up ordering the SCAR, and they were getting delivered in both the Mk.16 and Mk.17 form and well on their way to replacing the Mk.14 and M4 in US service, but it was decided that the SCAR-L wasn't really that big of an improvement over the M4, and that we didn't need so many SCAR-Hs. So the order was cut down to cancelling the Mk.16s and lowering the number of Mk.17s to be delivered. Tons of video games and movies (most notably Inception), feature the SCAR-L, and it's become pretty distinctive to the public due to its tan colour and ugg boot stock.
First Impressions/Externals
This was my first real AEG after my Double Eagle M83, and I got it in the May of 2011 used from Ender. I remembered thinking it was heavy as fuck (because my M83 weighed like 0 pounds) and jizzing over the metal receiver and numbered rails. The Classic Army SCAR-L is a Gen. 2 SCAR, so the stock only collapses to three positions. The cheek rest only changes to two positions as well. Another Gen.2 feature is that the cheek rest is flat. I personally prefer Gen.3 SCARs, but most of them that you'll see on the field will be Gen.2s thanks to everyone and their mother cloning the CA.
The externals of this gun are pretty horrid. New CA SCAR-Ls look disgustingly flat, and I was lucky enough that Ender used and abused this gun and got it all gross and dirty with his spit and everything before I got my hands on it. Trust me, these things do NOT look good new. What's neat is that the charging handle can be swapped to either side, and the controls of the gun are entirely ambidextrous, which is nice because I'm a left-handed shooter. The gun also features a monolithic rail running along the entire length of the upper receiver that allows for unprecedented versatility in optical attachments and uninterrupted sight setups- always a plus.

It comes with folding front and rear sights, and the stock (which houses the battery) folds as well.
The SCAR is actually a rather bulky gun. The receiver and front end are tall, making it kind of uncomfortably to c-clamp if you don't have large palms.
Internals
As a CA gun, the internals probably leave much to be desired for. The motor burned out right after I got it, and when I opened the gun up a couple months ago, I found that the shimming of the gears was not done very well either. CA didn't design the stock very well, so Ender had modified it to allow easy access of the battery beforehand.

The way the stock folds, the battery wires are actually exposed and can be crimped if you aren't careful. The VFC design of the folding stock is much better.
I'm not quite tech-savvy when it comes to airsoft, but I'll go ahead and assume the internals are decent, but can be better.
Skirmish Report
The first (and only) time I fielded this gun was my first airsoft game at CQB City. I remember it chronoing at 315 FPS with .20g BBs, and not making more than ten kills the whole game. In fact, my first ever airsoft kill was made with this gun, diving behind cover behind a car that a guy on the enemy team also happened to be hiding behind. He was facing the other direction, so I surrendered him out.
