THIS THREAD IS NOT ADVERTISEMENT FOR iWeb, QUITE THE OPPOSITE. READ BEFORE YOU LOCK. In a nutshell this thread is important if you're in any way affiliated with a gaming community, clan, or anyone you might know who rents servers. Basically, what happened was as many of you know I started an ArmA 2 clan back in June and it got quite popular. Things went pretty well for us after we got some of the basic stuff worked out and we decided to rent a dedicated server. Well since there's really no way to make the clan a legal entity I had to purchase the server and things under my name. We rented the server for a couple months from iWeb. It was a good deal and everything seemed in order. I'm in business so I from habit read through all the terms and the contract well and from what I got out of it, I signed up for a monthly contract. It was pretty good and did what we needed it to, problem was it was $214 a month, but we could muster that for a long time. Well end of August got here and we didn't have enough for the server so beginning of September we figured it was time to downgrade or do away with it. So I went to the customer hub on the website to try and cancel it; there's where the problems started. On the hub, none of the options allowed for canceling of the server. I looked and looked but couldn't find anything in the billing section. So after that I contacted their support. I talked to someone and they said that if I didn't pay the invoice that it would cancel at the end of the cycle. So I waited and after the cycle was over they sent me ANOTHER invoice, thus it had charged me again. So I contacted support again and this time I was told something different: I had to contact billing via e-mail to have anything like that done. So I sent them an e-mail saying there was a mistake and I wanted the server canceled before it billed me again and a day later I got a reply:
Hello, My name is Ahmed Rekmouche and my role is to ensure your satisfaction with iweb.com. I received your request asking us to cancel your server hosted with iWeb. Is there anything I can do to help you keep this server active? I am willing to adjust the price or upgrade your server configuration to fit your requirements. I am also committed to resolving technical issues if any. I will let you know that: iWeb matches the competition's offers and guarantees an unbeatable 100% power & network uptime SLA. Please feel free to contact me for any other questions you might have. Tel: (514) 286-4242 x 196 1-888-909-iWeb (4932) x196 Fax: (514) 227-5456
Rather than doing what I asked them to they send me this. So I send another one saying I don't want to change anything, I just want it canceled. I received another one back saying that if I wanted that I would have to pay $428 for the cycle that had just passed and a termination fee. Guess what: they put me on a 12 month contract with basically no indication AND they charged me for the cycle I wanted canceled. I never saw a commitment before but now there was a Commitment: 12 Months box on the origional order. I never saw that before and it was not on any of the invoices. After arguing with this guy over that matter for quite a few e-mails (Due to the fact it takes him about a day to reply to one) he finally agreed to drop the termination fee and cancel it if I paid this months cycle. Keep in mind I haven't touched the server in over a month and I wanted it canceled before that term was up. Basically I argued that with the guy and near a month has passed now. Today I actually got a threatening one back saying that the bottom line is I either pay this month's cycle or he will turn it over the the collection agency and they will take $428 forcibly. Moral of the story: If you're going to rent a server or if you know someone who uses servers then stay away from iWeb. They act like a fucking credit card company and will do everything in their power it seems to gip you out of money. It's expected from a modern company I guess but I've delt with other servers before and never had shit like this happen. Just save yourself and use a different company, you'll be better off.

You should talk to a gaming website.
How did you pay for it? If you paid with a Credit card call the CC company about it.
How did you pay for it? If you paid with a Credit card call the CC company about it.
EFT from my bank. Used a checking account I had just enough money in to keep it open so I could use it if need be. Transferred money from PayPal to the bank then to the company because they don't take PayPal.
For that much money you got ripped off for a server.
For that much money you got ripped off for a server.
:downs: Thank you, Captain Obvious.
I quick look at their terms of service.
Cancellation requests must be made using the "My Account" control panel or in writing with the customer's signature with at least 48 hours notice and sent to : iWeb Technologies, 20 Place du commerce, Nuns' Island, Montreal (Quebec) H3E 1Z6, CANADA. You can also send the cancellation request by fax at 1-514-313-5632.

it was $214 a month, but we could muster that for a long time.
WHAT THE FUCK? Was it running on Blue Gene/P or something???
For that much money you got ripped off for a server.
Well all considered it was a very good dedi. We had planned on using it for other things as well and pretty much all agreed a dedi was best and it fit our budget. And "TheOne" the problem there is there is nothing in the "My Account" control panel to do it, thus the confusion and why this whole mess is occurring.
Yeah and if its the one i remember seeing, the price was pretty low compared to what else was on offer that had the hardware etc that the guys needed.
Holy fuck. I've never even heard of this website, but I'll make sure to stray away from it if I ever have the need for a server.
Sucks, but that's what you get for going with a canadian server because it has more RAM or whatever over one recommended to you by an IT professional :S Especially considering it was a fuckton more expensive.
Well all considered it was a very good dedi. But I'll stop. And seriously, why do companies think that putting a lowercase i before their name make them better.
Hello, My name is Ahmed Rekmouche first sign of great customer support
What do you imply with that?
What do you imply with that?
That the majority of customer support these days is outsourced to India, obviously. I personally find Indian accents hard to understand.
It's not all bad that it was an Indian guy. The white people I talked to on the live chat were nice. This guy was very blunt and annoying; that plus his name made it no problem for me to be an ass right back for the last 2 e-mails I've sent him.
Wow that's just bad really. I played once on the server with you guys (I had to quite afterwards because of bad playing times etc.) and it was pretty good. But obviously very expensive D:

sucks
Just got a call that someone crashed into my wife's car while it was parked so this really isn't my day...
Email Apple's legal department. I am sure that they trademarked iWeb :D
Linelor, you have a wife?
Yea and I got 2 kids and a wrecked car so extra bills are really wonderful right now.
Wow, I was just looking at their dedicated servers yesterday... Thanks for the heads up.
Yea and I got 2 kids and a wrecked car so extra bills are really wonderful right now.
Ouch man, hope you get these bastards to just cancel it for you, good luck with it. :(
