Ebert, 70, who reviewed movies for the Chicago Sun-Times for 46 years and on TV for 31 years, and who was without question the nation’s most prominent and influential film critic, died Thursday in Chicago. He had been in poor health over the past decade, battling cancers of the thyroid and salivary gland.
http://www.suntimes.com/news/metro/17320958-418/roger-ebert-dies-at-70-after-battle-with-cancer.html
No...it can't be true...
Unfortunately I never knew anything about him other than his 'Video Games Aren't Art' thing.
Holy shit...just after he announced the cancer came back
Requiescat in pace, sweet prince. Your snark shall live on for eternity.
Unfortunately I never knew anything about him other than his 'Video Games Aren't Art' thing.
He did go back on that. He wasn't really as posh as many people thought he was, He was actually a pretty cool dude.
are videogames art now?
Last time I checked, he's fighting cancer again. THis time hip cancer.
Shit, that sucks. Had a feeling it wasn't far off considering he hasn't be in the best shape for awhile now, what with the fucked up jaw and all.
Aw man. He was one of my favourite reviewers, along with Mark Kermode.
Last time I checked, he's fighting cancer again. THis time hip cancer.
Uh he died?
Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. Fuck, he was the only movie critic I trusted.
RIP Mr. Ebert. The industry as lost a true stalwart critic.
no. no. NO. He was one of my idols, that's just horrible. I've been reading his reviews for years and loved what he had to say about movies. He will truly be missed.
His last review was "The Host" I blame Stephenie Meyer.
His last review was "The Host" I blame Stephenie Meyer.
Now it makes sense. That piece of shit "movie" was what killed him.
His last review was "The Host" I blame Stephenie Meyer.
What did he give the movie?
Oh my, this article was just from yesterady.
His last review was "The Host" I blame Stephenie Meyer.
Damn, of all the movies it had to be that one.

Goddamit, there's more cancer flying about this week than on /b/ during the height of July.
"What's more, I'll be able at last to do what I've always fantasized about doing: reviewing only the movies I want to review."
:(
Unfortunately I never knew anything about him other than his 'Video Games Aren't Art' thing.
If you want to learn his history then you might want to watch this: http://thatguywiththeglasses.com/videolinks/thatguywiththeglasses/nostalgia-critic/13453-sande I know some people have a dislike for NC, but I do think this is a great video if you want to learn about Siskel and Ebert.
Now he and Gene can review films together once again
Such a sad loss. I knew he was falling ill recently but to suddenly pass like this is just a shock. Thanks for the reviews, really meant a lot. :)
I wanted to make a retarded ratings joke, but after realising how important this guy was to a large amount of movie successes, cult or otherwise, I feel he deserves respect. Rest in peace.
It's nice to see he was still able to enjoy life and his work despite suffering greatly from his cancer. Always nice to see something like that!
It was always inspiring to see him still working on even after losing his jawbone. I may not have agreed with a lot of his cinematic opinions, but he was a titan amongst film critics nonetheless, and I always took some pleasure watching him and Siskel's film review show from many years ago. May he rest in peace.
There was a real warmth with his reviews. To still carry on like he did after a traumatic cancer debacle is quite astonishing really.
This is the first death in a long time that's legit shocked me. Rip dude you were a legend
