What would happen if South America became one nation?

This is a question that I have been wondering all my life. What would happen if all the nations of South America would merge into one nation?
I am from Argentina and I am kind of those rebellious types, as you can see on my avatar. Anyways I have always thought of South America as a great continent which could have great power/influence if all the countries would work together. Though I have always been under the impression that all the countries except for Cuba and Venezuela have been bending over for the USA. Like most of the European countries as well.
Now think about this, the whole South America continent, together as one. What would happen then? What would the nation be called? Who would rule the nation, and how would it be ruled? What would the society be like? How would this affect the World Economy? And last how would the world react to this?
I could imagine that one outcome would be that the USA would probably try to make some kind of impact in that country or something. I believe that it would be a very powerful country though I still would think that it would be peaceful but it would be very important to keep it that way. If I am correct it would be one of the largest nations in the world and that would lead to great respect. I am pretty sure that the rest of the world would feel some kind of threat.
I am pretty sure that this will never happen because it is nearly impossible, but I still like to day dream about this. What are your opinions about this? How do you think your country or the world would react to this? And if you can, maybe try to answer some of the questions above.

Pigs would fly hell would freeze over etc etc

So you can't see any good in this if it would happen?
I don't think it could be achieved peacefully. And if there was large-scale war, the rest of the world would also be there to protect their own interests. It'd be a fucking mess.
All the countries can't just come together, it would take a lot of work and preparation.
Reminds me of this thread
You'd have to run longer to cross any border
I expected some american or european to make a thread about such idea, but an argentinian?
Might work, but would take a lot of work and would create loads of difficulties.
A lot of flags would be rendered useless
Another Afghanistan. Just larger. And with crazier rebels.
Sorry but you are about 200 years late buddy, Simon Bolivar already tried this and I think Jose De San Martin was in support of it.
But anyways I would actually welcome it since we would actually be taken more in consideration when it comes to world wide affairs, maybe it could have been possible 200 years but we just didn't want to.
(Rated heart because I would like this to happen)

It shall be named, Super Brasil.
I have Che Guevara T-Shirt
It shall be named, Super Brasil.
No, it shall be named the United States Of America.
Wait
Lots of people have the shirt but they don't know what the hell it stands for, they wear it without a meaning they don't know what it is. Not saying you don't know, you might do.
This thread reminds me of What would happen if Tasmania is it's own country.
There's already the United Nations.
Why would we need another, weak super-conglomerate of other nations?
it isn't one?
I don't think Brazil would want to join. I think they would prefer their independence. Plus there is a language barrier between Brazil and the other countries of South America. Even though both languages are very similar.
Not that similar i'd say.
Everybody has such a sense of nationalism, it's highly likely. I'd think if it did happen, Brazil would be rather reluctant because they speak mainly Portuguese.
They would call it "America del Sur", I suppose.
In theory it kinda is, but with accents I'd agree. It boils down to accents I think.

On a serious note.
I think you're forgetting Chile, which is more rich and powerful then Argentina.
Then you're forgetting Brazil, who's more powerful then Chile, but not as rich.

Well sure, opinions are opinions
I like how the OP equates a nation having a large land mass with it being powerful. Russia and Canada are the two largest countries in the world and as you can clearly see we are the most powerful.
The formation of a single nation could never happen anywhere within any of our lifetimes. Come back when you've got the governments of all the countries to give up their power and arrange a single government and then that single government gain the support of the people of all the different countries with their different politics and...
It's an entire continent. To be 'respected' by North America and Europe like you seem to want the focus should be on development and advancement nationally rather than expansion across the entire continent with it's enormous tracts of uninhabitable and treacherous lands.
