Hum is a space rock band formed in Champaign, Illinois in 1989. It consists of Matt Talbot (Vocals & Guitar), Tim Lash (Guitar), Jeff Dimpsey (Bass), and Brian St. Pere (Drums). While they did release 4 albums in the 90s, they never gained enough recognition to continue and eventually disbanded. They have not been consistently active since 2000, but will occasionally play reunion shows to their diehard fans.
Their most prominent album, You'd Prefer An Astronaut, featured the song Stars, unfortunately the only hit song in their collection.

Downward is Heavenward is the final album of Hum. Due to a failure in promotion, it received poor sales and plummeted Hum to the bottom.

While those two are their most popular, I strongly suggest checking out their second album, Electra 2000. It details the most rock-orientated part of their career.

That being said, they are playing three reunion shows this year.
Old Rock House in Saint Louis, MO, May 22nd
Millenium Park in Chicago, Memorial Day
And Champaign, IL, July 10th
Thank you so much for your post.

I used to rock to these guys and totally forgot about them until this post. Speaking of space rock, you should check out Failure.

Thanks for the bump, spambot.
I do wish people would check out this band more, I've listened to them for a good 5-6 years now.
