Interior Minister Ögmundur Jónasson has set up working parties to find the best ways to stem the tide of online images and videos being accessed by young people through computers, games consoles and smartphones. Methods under consideration include blocking porn IP addresses and making it illegal to use Icelandic credit cards to access x-rated sites. A law forbidding the printing and distribution of porn has long been in place in the Nordic nation – but it has yet to be updated to cover the internet. Two years ago, the Icelandic Parliament – led by female prime minister Jóhanna Sigurðardóttir - successfully banned all strip clubs on the grounds that they violated the civil rights of the women who worked there and were harmful to society.

SOURCE: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2277769/Icelands-bid-ban-web-porn.html#axzz2KldsNyMh

lol i'd like to see them try
lol i'd like to see them try
Considering this:
Two years ago, the Icelandic Parliament – led by female prime minister Jóhanna Sigurðardóttir - successfully banned all strip clubs on the grounds that they violated the civil rights of the women who worked there and were harmful to society.
I'd say it's a very likely and dangerous possibility porn will get banned.
Holy fuck stop thinking of the children and start thinking of the parents. USE PARENTAL CONTROLS
Better stock up, people of Iceland.
Watch as terabyte hard drive sales go through the roof and networks are bogged down with "content" downloads
Considering this: I'd say it's a very likely and dangerous possibility porn will get banned.
Entirely different from banning porn from the internet. There's so many porn sites it's literally impossible to block them all.
Considering this: I'd say it's a very likely and dangerous possibility porn will get banned.
How the hell do they violate civil rights if the woman on their own terms go work there
How the hell do they violate civil rights if the woman on their own terms go work there
There's always the Anti-Capitalist argument on wage slavery, but that would mean the women would just be "enslaved" else where...
this is like a paternal democracy
How the hell do they violate civil rights if the woman on their own terms go work there
women are enticed to join a profession that degrades them and turns them into sexual objects. it isn't hard to see why people would be against it.
Considering how cold it is up there and there's probably nothing to do...
Damn. I had quite a lot of respect for Iceland due to how modern many of their laws are and how their politics work. I'm not so sure anymore.
you lost your respect for a nation because of their stubbornness on porn how much is your respect worth
you lost your respect for a nation because of their stubbornness on porn how much is your respect worth
He thinks with his other head. [editline]15th February 2013[/editline]
Considering this: I'd say it's a very likely and dangerous possibility porn will get banned.
Unless the women were forced to work there...how is stripping a violation of a woman's civil right?
Damn. I had quite a lot of respect for Iceland due to how modern many of their laws are and how their politics work. I'm not so sure anymore.
because they won't let you look at porn? lol
because they won't let you look at porn? lol
I more of think it's because how backward the law is, mainly.
Unless the women were forced to work there...how is stripping a violation of a woman's civil right?
you have to ask the question who in Iceland would choose to be a stripper, and additionally, would a stripper be better off personally administrating her work (lol) or being employed by a business its complex shit
you lost your respect for a nation because of their stubbornness on porn how much is your respect worth
A nation without porn is not a nation though
A nation without porn is not a nation though
based on Bjork's description of iceland it doesnt seem to need porn because they're all fucking each other anyway
you lost your respect for a nation because of their stubbornness on porn how much is your respect worth
The modernity and the general quality of life (i.e. lack of real news) in Iceland implies a level-headedness and liberality not found in some other western nations I could name; this news implies that there isn't. Generally, a hard stance on porn and other sexy things is associated with right-wing nutjobbery. I agree with him.
Generally, a hard stance on porn and other sexy things is associated with right-wing nutjobbery.
anti-porn feminists could hardly be called right-wing nutjobs lol this issue isnt as simple as left or right, even if i do agree with you
women are enticed to join a profession that degrades them and turns them into sexual objects. it isn't hard to see why people would be against it.
Yes, but unless they're being forced into the job I don't see anything to blame other then their decisions.
Yes, but unless they're being forced into the job I don't see anything to blame other then their decisions.
well you can make the claim we are all forced into our job by the systems that surround us. it's more complex than "oh they choose to be strippers".
women are enticed to join a profession that degrades them and turns them into sexual objects. it isn't hard to see why people would be against it.
I have a few stripper friends and they love their job
well you can make the claim we are all forced into our job by the systems that surround us. it's more complex than "oh they choose to be strippers".
I doubt there is anywhere where there are literally no jobs other then being a stripper. If there is, the government might want to focus on that then banning another job.
I doubt there is anywhere where there are literally no jobs other then being a stripper. If there is, the government might want to focus on that then banning another job.
you confuse my explanation for why people oppose strippers, prostitutes, and pornography with actual support for the banning of these professions. i'm against banning jobs like this because it simply creates a black market where the women are objectified and abused far more than you can claim they are in a legal industry. but it isn't like some women aren't forced into these jobs due to circumstances. and just because a few(or even most) women might enjoy it, it still isn't necessarily a good thing when it helps enforce oppressive cultural ideas that work to turn women into sexual objects. the sex industry is far from black and white, and there is certainly a lot of abuse within the industry, targeted at women. like i said, it's easy to see why many people would oppose it.
Okay so if a kid watches porn, all it does is make him realize sex is a thing like 6 years earlier, max. Friends don't just go over to friends and say "hey wanna jack off and watch some porn??"

I mean what if you have people(most likely men) who have bdsm, exhibition or, humiliation fetishes? Isn't it wrong to ban something strictly because you don't have an appreciation for it? You can't exactly tell people to stop enjoying these things, look how well 'pray away the gay' camps are working. It's better we try to clean up the legal system around in then ban it and watch the videos from kink be done by real victims instead of actors.
