• Prince Charles: climate change may have helped cause Syrian civil war
Prince Charles has said that climate change may have been one of the causes of the civil war in Syria. The heir to the throne has long been a passionate campaigner on environmental issues and linked drought in the Middle Eastern nation with the conflict which has left hundreds of thousands dead, created millions of refugees and seen the rise of Islamic State. In the interview with Sky News, to be broadcast on Monday but filmed before last week’s deadly Islamist terrorist attack in Paris that left 130 people dead, Charles talks about his belief that there are links between climate change and terrorism. He also urged governments to adopt green measures despite austerity, saying there was “a real possibility of nature’s bank going bust”. Charles told the broadcaster: “We’re seeing a classic case of not dealing with the problem, because, I mean, it sounds awful to say, but some of us were saying 20 something years ago that if we didn’t tackle these issues you would see ever greater conflict over scarce resources and ever greater difficulties over drought, and the accumulating effect of climate change, which means that people have to move. “And, in fact, there’s very good evidence indeed that one of the major reasons for this horror in Syria, was a drought that lasted for about five or six years, which meant that huge numbers of people in the end had to leave the land.”
http://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2015/nov/23/prince-charles-climate-change-may-have-helped-cause-syrian-civil-war Is climate change the biggest threat to our security?
It's interesting how political Prince Charles is. I honestly think he'll pass the throne onto William when he succeeds. He seems to respect that the reigning monarch shouldn't really play a role in politics, and I think he'd rather give that up than give up his political expression.
well, he ain't wrong, he is basically repeating whats already been said, that one of the arab spring main causes was the huge increase in food prices due to shortages caused by droughts whose cause was climate change. When you put it that way, it makes a curious kind of sense.

While climate change will be a big decider of future wars, I doubt it has jack to do with this war.
He's actually right, it was a factor. [editline]24th November 2015[/editline]
While climate change will be a big decider of future wars, I doubt it has jack to do with this war.
Incomes have suddenly been erased due to a drought and suddenly there's an opportunity to feed your family. You don't think it will have happened to at least one person?
Plays right into my theory that rising temperatures in the Middle East is a big cause for the migration problem (not just the threat of being blown up).
When you put it that way, it makes a curious kind of sense.
I wish I had the report. But every year the DoD does a brief from former generals about what the biggest threat to US security is. Almost every year it has been Climate Change since around 2005 for the precisely what's happening now. The destabilization and destruction of liveability will create a refugee crisis which can become incredibly violent.
Climate change responsible for everything again. How do you even want to measure this, lmao
"Alexander's invasion of Persia may have helped cause Syrian Civil War"
Maybe it's more accurate to say "this longass drought may have been one of the causes of the syrian uprising and thus the civil war"
Climate change responsible for everything again. How do you even want to measure this, lmao
he's not wrong - global warming played a role in the syrian drought, sending food prices through the roof. people will feed themselves any way they can.
This is the first time I've considered a member of the royal family to be of above average intelligence. Lots of revolts and wars through history were caused by lack of food. The 1600s with the english civil war and wars/revolts all over europe of china was also the time when global temperatures dipped a couple of dgerees causing huge loss of crops.
