[quote]The average girl born in 2012 can expect to live to the age of 72; the average boy to 68, according to statistics released today (May 15) by the World Health Organization. People just about everywhere are living longer, and the average life expectancy has gone up by six years since 1990. In low income countries, the gains have been higher, with life expectancy up an average of nine years.

Huh, i figured the US would be in the 80s by now in average life expectancy, since people regularly get into their 80s and even 90s here before kicking the bucket. All three grandparents are/were in their 80s, and my only grandfather i knew was a few days from 90 before he died. But then again, my little(relatively) town doesn't speak for the major populations of this country.
Yay advances in medicine, hygiene, living conditions, etc!

Your grandparents are lucky. I only had one grandparent make it to 80, and another who is getting there, but it's..iffy.
My maternal grandmother is 84 and looking good for it. She's damn near deaf, and she's developed diabetes, but that's it.
It's the good irish farm living did it, I tells you.
My grandmother is 91 and though she has trouble hearing every now and then, she's still able to drive and do chores by herself, everything really, she's doing great for her age.
My great grandmother's still fit as a fiddle at 92, she's the kind of woman who could still do cartwheels at 40/50.

I know someone working at my church whose 93 about to turn 94. Emphasis on the still working part.
I can hardly imagine all the shit people who are 90+ have seen.
My great grandma turns 100 this year and will (hopefully) last a few more years
where is the us??????
Family history and genetics telling me 68ish for the average male with these years tacked on
I would expect the health expectancy of Americans isn't in the top ten because 33% of this country is obese.
I've always noticed that in life expectancy studies, males generally live shorter than females, does anyone here know why?

Women tend to age better, and I think a lot of men die due to roles in society (Soldiers, firefighters, policemen)
"Tits or GTFO" becomes really relevant later in life
While I do love these statistics, I don't think this will last for long. Who knows how long until antibiotics and other medicines will become useless?
All of my grandparents were dead by the time I was 8 :(
This means I'll moderate Facepunch for another 58 years.

The huge advances in quality of life (e.g. nutrition) and hygiene will make sure the drop will be minimal
Sweet i can't wait until I'm the oldest man on facepunch
Do these figures account for violent deaths like car accidents, murder and such, or omit them?
