I watched that second Zeitgeist that mainly focused on the economy and it was great. (If you're going to reply with calling me a conspiracy nut, or if the mods are going to ban me for promoting zeitgeist, stop right there and read on. This is NOT about zeitgeist) Some good information that I want to research later. For now I urge you to watch it, if you don't have the time watch the part about Project Venus, it's in the last 30 or so minutes and it's amazing. I myself know the current system is fucked up, but what are the alternatives? I've racked my brain for something new that would work. People corrupt everything.
Then there is Project Venus.

Project Venus is kinda like communism and anarchy I guess. It takes advantage of the one thing that makes our lives better. Technology and uses the full potential to shape out life. To complete complex medical procedures, transportation and using clean energy such as solar, geothermal, wind, tide and wave energy. I gotta look into it some more but basically hardly anyone would have to work since everything is provided for them and they have free-time to do all they ever wanted to do. They say crime would drop because most crimes are for money or some kind of monetary gain. Project Venus eliminates currency since natural energy would be free energy. They go as far to say that laws would be uneeded which means government would become obsolete. People would be completely free to do whatever they want. To paint a painting to share to people and for enjoyment instead of selling it for money.
I love the idea, sure it seems outrageous and impossible but imagine...it'd be a perfect world. Science fiction wouldn't be fiction. I hope to get older and get into the political field and really push this idea forward. It's so amazing, it nearly brings tears to my eye and makes me wish there is an afterlife so I can see this done.
Redesign. :eng101:
Guess I should redesign my typing skills. :v:
It's going to be a long to come when technology is so self sufficient that it doesn't require human interaction. And then we have some sort of matrix-esque is-technology-getting-too-good scenario.
All I see is a bunch of conceptual art.
When the venus project does become sucessful, i'm going to beat hookers to death and rape little boys. But i guess it doesnt matter because laws are irrelevant.
lol zeitgeist

lol.
It won't work, Why would it?
No laws, People can murder other people just for shits and giggles. Rape would be...Out of control!
Why work to help other people when you can reap all the benefits for yourself?
It would fall into total decay and would go to shit.
I would abuse the power along with a significant number of other people, taking advantage of the free resources to build a colony ship. We would then ship off to mars or something to get the hell away from your "Perfect" Society.
There are always people who will abuse it. Regardless.
I would not want to live there. Just like any utopian society, it is virtually doomed to utter failure the moment it starts.
People have a psychological and sociological need to work. If we aren't working, we are merely existing. (I realize that sounds pretty attractive to some people, but those people are slackers.) People have a fundamental necessity to 'do' and 'do' it well, and they want their name tied to what they do. These are genetic conditions that we are proud of. Furthermore, what we do is greatly affected by necessity. In your utopia, the people would likely end up bored and resort to crime anyways. Not out of necessity, but of having nothing else to do that makes any impact on anything.
So technology would do everything for us? We could just sit there all day, with robots doing all the work?

WE'D GET FAT!
Utopia.
It doesn't sound like anywhere I'd want to live.

I Walle they became fat because of the gravity
I Walle they became fat because of the gravity
Their bones got small and soft because of the gravity. They got fat and lazy because they sat in their chairs all day watching tv.

awwwgrhh...
That research center for sale is extremely enticing.
It's a pretty good idea, but It'd be too radical to implement on the scale they're thinking. Current human behaviour is too entrenched in its ideals.
Other flaws include the fact that the Earth's sustainable population is well below our current population, therefore some sort of mass genocide or emigration to other planets would be needed to make this successful.
Lastly they're putting a lot of faith on humans being good. It's a nature vs nurture argument. If a man is free from duty other than to his own happiness would he be creative and flourish? Or lay around all day doing nothing? They're putting a lot of faith on the former happening, and that's the biggest gamble here.
Just wait for Singularity, and this will seem more appealing.
It's "kinda' like communism and anarchy." is like saying "it's kinda' like black and white."
Communism and anarchy are two VERY different things. You need a very fucking big government to enforce communism, while anarchy is complete lack of government. The two cannot coexist. Anyone that thinks they can might as well be trying to ride a unicorn.
And if it so happens that I am wrong and this does work, I am going to ruin it for all of you by breaking stuff and stealing things, possibly with some murder and firebombing thrown in the mix.
It's called extreme dissent. Not everybody agrees with your (stupid) ideas.
Edit:
Did I mention it's a terrible idea?
No laws? You fail to factor in that not everybody can be trusted - some people just loove to fuck shit up, or maybe they're fucked in the head. You take away laws, you take away the fear of being caught. You take that away, what's left? Woo I can kill people because that's what I want to do and I'm a crazy motherfucker!
I give your "utopia" a day.

At very least with no laws a system of bartering and currency would sprout up fast and ruin the shit out of the whole shitty idea.

Or everyone kills each other.
Lol no. The world is full of assholes, this shit doesn't work. We NEED laws and regulations.
It's interesting, but has many flaws.
Such as taking away laws.. There will always need to be laws because as Rusty100 said, some people just like to fuck it up for everyone else.
So promising, so optimistic. Sounds like a cult.
Utopia won't work with humans, sorry!
I choose the impossible, I choose project Venus!
The utopia would fall apart because you all have shitty attitudes about it!
You wouldn't have to worry about the evil corperations taking over the world if they elliminate currency, which is the thing I was concerned about...
Yet, people are stupid. They do stupid stuff. So with no laws, wouldn't that encurage stupid decisions?

Ok sure let's chuck the entirety of society down the pan because you don't like 'evil corporations'
While we're at it let's remove all covered storage because I'm afraid of monsters in my cupboard.
Humans are stupid. That debunks any frivolous utopian bullcrap.
