Householders could be required to pay the television licence fee even if they do not own a television, under proposals being discussed by the BBC. Lord Hall, the BBC’s director-general, wants to extend the £145.50 annual fee in response to the growing popularity of iPlayer, which enables viewers to watch programmes on home computers, mobile phones and tablet devices. The news came as the BBC announced it will make programmes available to view on iPlayer for 30 days after they are first broadcast, instead of seven, later this year. What part makes this a good idea, I'm living at university accommodation at the moment and use iplayer because it's far better than forking out almost £150, the people that don't have a TV license are the ones that cant afford one.
The BBC can go fuck itself.
Yeah, no. I don't watch TV because it's fucking shit 24/7 and i can just pay netflix and have decent stuff, on demand, with no ads.
I dont even own a TV, haven't done for years now :v:
Wow, here the NRK only charges people who own sets, and yet ALL their programs since the '60s (well, as they are uploaded, but still, ALL their programs) are available online, on PC, mobile, and even Chromecast, until their deal with the rights holders run out (2019 I believe)
Welcome to Sweden, we have the same stupid system. 2000sek (220 euro a year) for something that I don't use...
It's always been the case. If you watch live TV on any device then you need a license.
That's because the BBC is piss poor and will exploit any hole it can find to fund itself.
Already have this in Finland, as "media tax". It funds the piece of shit national/government owned television channels that only old people watch. And of course the millions of euros of yearly bonuses for their bosses.
The British can't be trusted to watch TV without registration :v: .
The BBC is a massive scam bracket, I haven't paid the tv license in years and every so often I have one of their goons come to the door and ask me to pay, I record them with my phone every time as proof of them harassing me and they've never tried to take me to court because of it, they don't have proof that I even watch BBC programming (which I don't) so they can't do anything about it. I recently sent them a letter revoking their implied right of access to my property and have not had any letters or goons coming to the door since, feels good knowing my rights, seriously don't let the BBC bully you into paying their made-up toll.

i use iplayer on my ps3 but i dont pay the licence fee i am literally hitler
i use iplayer on my ps3 but i dont pay the licence fee i am literally hitler
u foul cunt No if you just watch catch-up you don't have to pay the license fee
No they don't, they charge households if they have internet access, as anyone can access their online content.
According to NRK themselves, it only applies to TVs, DVD/video with tuner, satellite receivers, decoders, PCs with TV-card/tuner, and similar.

WOIRA requests makes it easier for them to get a warrant which would be a pain in the arse to deal with even if you are not breaking the law. The current best advice is either : 1) No contact with them 2) Tell them you don't need a TV licence but do not give them your name and do not sign anything More generally though never sign anything their goons hand you. They commonly use a 'TVL178 Record of Interview' which they use as a signed confession in court.
I don't even own cable anymore. What's the point?
Make it so you can only watch iPlayer by logging in with your TV license details and your'e done. They only want to force everyone to pay because no one actually watches that shit.
While I appreciate some BBC programming and news coverage I can see how much money they waste on stuff like moving to Salford despite the BBC TV center in London being perfectly fit for purpose and bureaucratic nonsense. The TV licence is an outdated concept and the rate should be based on income anyway if it exists at all because for a lot of people it's a large amount of money.
while we're at it i should have to pay vehicle tax when i don't own a car
How about make decent show's i'd actually watch? then i'd consider paying the fee with the exception of a couple which i usually just buy the dvd for anyway since i don't have time to watch them when they air.
Fuck that! If I want to watch something that bad I'll wait until it's on demand on iPlayer.
I like this whole 'implied usage' thing going on because you have the internet you watch iPlayer and BBC programs and thus cost money I'll send them an invoice because bbc employees have legs and thus its implied that they use my house, and so should pay rent
Haven't paid TV licence in two years, never had a letter or anyone knock on the door
You guys pay a TV licence? That's dumb.
I only watch BBC for Top Gear AND ONLY TOP GEAR. The rest of the bbc shows are pretty shitty and it's just too expensive being skint as fuck anyway.
You guys pay a TV licence? That's dumb.
TV license isn't dumb, it funds media infrastructure and keeps media from being privatized. It's only dumb when it goes this far.
