DETROIT – Detroit Police say a 20-year-old Burger King employee who was arguing with a customer punched the 67-year-old man, who fell and later died. Police spokeswoman Yvette Walker says the older man was reportedly causing a disturbance Thursday afternoon at the restaurant on the city's east side, tried to hit the employee and the employee swung back. WJBK-TV reports police say the punch may have caused the elderly man to choke on his dentures. The man died at a hospital. Walker says an autopsy will determine cause of death. Police say the employee was being held Friday and information would be submitted to prosecutors for review. Burger King spokeswoman Denise Wilson said Friday that company officials were aware of the incident and the franchise owner was cooperating with police.
Source. FALCON... PAWNCH! Also the old man swung first, so this is technically self-defense. EDIT how the fuck could this possibly be late it was just posted on Yahoo 20 minutes ago EDIT 2 Updated article (source is the same):
DETROIT – The death of a 67-year-old Burger King customer who police said fell and later died after being punched by a 20-year-old employee was ruled a homicide on Friday. An autopsy determined that Paul Cannon died from blunt force trauma to the head, said Dennis Niemiec, a spokesman for the Wayne County medical examiner's office. An earlier report suggested the punch may have caused Cannon to choke on his dentures, but Niemiec said the dentures played no role in the death. The employee was being held Friday and could face criminal charges. Once the investigation is complete, the details will be submitted to the county prosecutor's office for review, likely over the weekend, said police Sgt. Eren Stephens. Police said Cannon was reportedly causing a disturbance Thursday afternoon at the restaurant on the city's east side and tried to hit the worker, who swung back. Police believe he was homeless, Stephens said. "A verbal argument occurred," Stephens said. "It escalated into a physical altercation." Jerome Perdu, 59, of Detroit, works as a security guard nearby and said he was at the restaurant at the time. He said he didn't see the customer get hit, but watched as paramedics tried to revive him. The restaurant was crowded at the time, he said. "I just seen him lying on the floor," Perdu said. "EMS was pumping him." He died at a hospital, police said. Cannon's last known address was in Detroit, Niemiec said. Earlier in the day, a sign on the restaurant's door indicated that only the drive-thru was open, and a steady stream of customers pulled into the parking lot. A manager who opened the locked door said any comment would come from the fast food company. Denise Wilson, a spokeswoman for Miami-based Burger King, said that company officials were aware of the incident and the franchise owner was cooperating with police.
:bang:
self defence still wouldn't hit an old man
To be a little bit fair the old guy did swing first.
Self-defense or not he's still definitely fired
Well i won't say what the employee did was justified but the old man really brought this upon himself.
self defense doesn't justify killing an old man.................
The old man choked on his dentures, the punch clearly was not intended as fatal.
The old man died. He's fired, and probably going to jail for a long time. Even if the guy died choking on his dentures, the employee is still indirectly responsible for his death.
The old man died. He's fired, and probably going to jail for a long time. Even if the guy died choking on his dentures, the employee is still indirectly responsible for his death.
just because he is old doesnt mean he can hit people and expect not to get hit back.
just because he is old doesnt mean he can hit people and expect not to get hit back.
Exactly... what sort of old man throws a punch at a burger king employee anyway?
Must have been a Whopper of a punch.

We need George Lucas' help on deciding who struck first
To be a little bit fair the old guy did swing first.
He's 67 years old. Unless he was a Ranger during WWII or Vietnam, his punches aren't going to be doing any damage.
self defense doesn't justify killing an old man.................
Ah, good point, let's just let old people commit crimes with no penalty.
Ah, good point, let's just let old people commit crimes with no penalty.
Any WWII veteran should have complete amnesty and the right to be as cantankerous as they want.
The old man died. He's fired, and probably going to jail for a long time. Even if the guy died choking on his dentures, the employee is still indirectly responsible for his death.
What kind of diseased thinking is this? He isn't going to be charged. It was probably an automatic reaction in self-defense. I would've done the same thing. Nobody should be put in jail simply on the grounds that what they did caused someone to die. Circumstances are important.
Any WWII veteran should have complete amnesty and the right to be as cantankerous as they want.
This.
A 67 year old man, what damage could he really do?
He's 67 years old. Unless he was a Ranger during WWII or Vietnam, his punches aren't going to be doing any damage.
I know my 68 year old grand uncle who killed 'them gooks' in 'Nam that will slap your shit Also 68 =/= 86 [editline]10th December 2010[/editline] Oh wait, I just remembered my Grand Uncle was a Navy Seal during Vietnam... Carry on
I just hope he asked the old man "You want fries with that?" when he punched him.
This is manslaughter, isn't it?
Also 67 Years Old = Born in 1943, so the only war he could have fought in is Vietnam [editline]10th December 2010[/editline]
This is manslaughter, isn't it?
No
self defence still wouldn't hit an old man
You obviously haven't seen some of the dipshits that come to fast food restaurants.
The employee probably didn't even intentionally do it. It was probably just a reflex response to the old man attacking him.
Ah, good point, let's just let old people commit crimes with no penalty.
oh yeah you're right because the only way to react to an old man trying to hit you is to punch him right back you clearly couldn't do anything to else to this powerhouse of a 67 year old
This is manslaughter, isn't it?
Possibly voluntary manslaughter, considering it was self defense.
detroit, just sayin'
