After nearly a decade away, the furry freaks Sulley and Mike are to return to the task of not-really-frightening children. Disney-Pixar has announced a sequel to Monsters Inc, the 2001 movie that became the eighth highest grossing animation of all time, taking $256m (£167m). The new film will appear in cinemas in November 2012. In the meantime, two other Disney-Pixar sequels will reach the screen – Toy Story 3 this summer and Cars 2 next year.
Sequels and spin-offs look set to dominate the animation market in the immediate future. As well as the Disney-Pixar trio, DreamWorks premiered Shrek Forever After in 3D at the Tribeca film festival this week, and Antonio Banderas has confirmed that his Puss in Boots character is to get his own vehicle, due for release next year. Shrek 2, Shrek the Third and Shrek are, respectively, the No 1, No 4 and No 6 grossing animations in history, taking a combined total of $1.03bn. Shrek Forever After, in which the green ogre is tricked by Rumpelstiltskin and finds himself in an alternate Far Far Away, is released in the UK on 9 July.
Two other animated sequels are also in production. DreamWorks has a third Madagascar film slated for release in 2012, while the Weinstein Company is working on a followup to Hoodwinked, the Red Riding Hood retelling that took $110m worldwide against an estimated budget of only $15m.[/release]
It will probably suck. Like most sequels.
Did you see Toy Story 2?
No but i bet it sucked.

yes
Probably will be good, Pixar never disappointed me so far.
It's Pixar. Even if it's relatively bad for them it'll end up being a good movie.
Never cared for the first.
10 years is a long time
The more I watched the first one, the more I realised how brilliant the whole door-portal thing is.
Awesome film. Glad it's getting a sequel.
Cool! Can't wait!
Seems a little unnecessary, but whatever I guess.
I was hoping for a sequel to this movie. I'm glad that they're working on it.
I preferred Monsters, Inc. to Toy Story so yay

I love both equally :3:
Personally, I think the story ended with the first movie. I mean, at the end all the monsters are effectively comedians, the power shortage is sorted due to Scream being replaced by Laughter, Sully's the CEO of the company, and he finally sees Boo again. I think it's pretty well wrapped up there. Now how could you possibly make a sequel? How could you possibly follow on from that?
At a stretch, I guess it'd probably be about some human organisation kidnapping the monsters whilst they're in the human world, like a reverse "alien abduction". Just a random stab in the dark, but it might be something like that. Or it could be something completely different. I don't really care about Pixar films anymore, i've kinda left them all behind.

1.) Toy Story 2 didn't suck fyi.
2.) This is Pixar we're talking about.
Box for you.
I honestly didn't expect a monsters inc 2. This is great!

Toy Story 2 is probably the best sequel of all time, possible exception being the godfather. You have no idea what you're talking about. I know countless amounts of people who actually think Toy Story 2 is better than Toy Story, and I'd have to agree with them.
Also... what the fuck? Cars 2? John Lassater already admitted Cars was his biggest mistake. Why the hell do they feel the need to make a sequel?
Kittie!
MIKE WAZOUSKI!

I fucking love Monsters Inc. I love Pixar in general. Pixar has failed to disappoint me, so hopefully this will not fail.
Anyone else suddenly have the urge to go watch Monsters Inc. again? I know I'm going to later tonight.
I don't know if I should be concerned or not. I have no doubt that it will be good, but this feels unnecessary.

He's been quoted enough already.
Stop, hammertime.

It made Disney fucktons of money with merchandise, so Disney probably pushed them to make the sequel.
Cool, loved Monsters Inc all of Pixars films are awesome.
Cant wait for Cars 2, Toy Story 3 as well :O
Maybe that lizard guy will come back, didn't something happen to him in the last film?
