US fast-food chain Chipotle has asked customers not to bring firearms into its restaurants, after a group of gun rights advocates carried assault-style rifles into one in Texas.

Chipotle said the guns caused "many of our customers anxiety and discomfort".
Many US states allow people to carry guns in some fashion, but businesses may ban them.
Chipotle, which serves Mexican-style food, joins coffee giant Starbucks in requesting customers not bring guns into their locations.

"Businesses have a duty to protect their employees and patrons - especially in states where no background checks or training are required to buy semi-automatic rifles and carry them openly in public."

Open Carry Texas founder CJ Grisham told the Forbes website his group went to a Chipotle at the weekend not to demonstrate but for a meal following an event.
"We always let the manager know we're coming," he said. "We're peaceful, we're looking for a place to eat, but we have guns. If we're not welcome, we're not going to spend money there."
It's true. I don't care how hard you flex your constitutional right to be an asshole, please leave your gun locked in the car.

But guns work through windows.
It makes sense for them not wanting people bringing guns into the restaurant.

If somebody really wants to shoot people up, they'll find a way, laws or not. This is about customers feeling save inside the restaurants. Not everybody feels comfortable around guns, safely carried or not.

Talk about shooting yourself in the foot.
I'm surprised South Park hasn't done an episode around open carry advocates much in the same style of the episode with the bikers going around and making a bunch of noise for attention and then being called fags.

oh stop being cunts
oh stop being cunts
it's your right to carry a gun
it's their right to request that you not bring it inside as it is a private establishment
I mean I've always thought that businesses should be allowed to refuse service to anyone they want to, so this is no exception. Their restaurant, their rules. I'm pretty big on gun rights myself but if a business doesn't want you to carry your rifle in to it, you should probably just take your money elsewhere instead of trying to defend your rights by buying an overpriced burrito with your AR-15 on your back.
As for CC, if you're doing it properly, no one in the restaurant should know you have it anyway, so I don't see that even being an issue.
it's your right to carry a gun

there is a point where its your right and theres a point where you are a major ass for doing it.
Good, open carry guys are douchebags.
I for one, if I see people open carrying guns inside a restaurant, I would not walk in there. I don't know this persons mental condition, or situation he's in. I don't want to be there if he cracks or something. Which is ironic as I work at a gun shop :v:
The activists that bring rifles in with an open carry really are some of the most irresponsible gun owners. You're making everyone else look so bad just because you can. I don't like open carrying and the rest of the gun community suffers for it.
Now if people are taking their guns with a concealed carry in there properly no one would know. But saying "no guns allowed" isn't going to stop someone that means harm from doing harm.

It's my right to stand on a street corner and start screaming "FUCK" at passerbys, but it's still a stupid idea and I'm never going to do it.

Totally not asking something to go wrong or anything, nuh-uh.
there is a point where its your right and theres a point where you are a major ass for doing it.
Both are not mutually exclusive.
You can call someone a nigger, and it falls under free speech but that doesn't mean you're not an ass for saying it.
It's my right to stand on a street corner and start screaming "FUCK" at passerbys, but it's still a stupid idea and I'm never going to do it.
yeah and if you yell "FUCK" in a restaurant they're going to ask you to leave.
These are like the people who open carry obnoxiously on the side of the road just so a cop stops them and asks "what are you doing" with the sole intention of recording them and putting them on youtube going 'THIS FASCIST PIG COP IS OPPRESSING ME AND MY GOD-GIVEN RIGHT TO HAVE MY GUN".
I don't see an issue with this, i know in my state unless previously posted publicly, you can open carry into any establishment. You don't need a gun to enjoy a burrito.
I can't wait for some dumbass employee to try and use this when he catches a peek of someone's CCW by accident
I'm all for gun rights, but it's perfectly reasonable to allow an establishment to ban them. Those damn gun right advocates are barking up the wrong tree.

Not only is it reasonable, it's how it works. Anyone can deny guns on their private property. These guys can't say a thing about it.
However, these guys aren't throwing up a "muh freedoms" argument, they said if they aren't welcome that they just won't spend their money there. Looks like somebody tried to make a story out of nothing.
This is how is see it:
The gun right advocates who went into the store with rifles are douche bags. I love guns, but wandering around town with a rifle strapped to your back just isn't normal.
This no guns allowed rule isn't gonna stop the conceal carry guys.
Chipotle should get rid of this rules. Unless they hire an armed guard and buy metal detectors for every single store they have, this rule won't stop conceal carry and certainly won't stop the criminal element. A more realistic rule would be saying that Chipotle is not a forum, so do not bring your politics, in this case gun rights, into the store.
It's private property.
Perfectly legal/of rights of them to tell people not to bring guns in their fast food restaurants.

maybe it's only to stop people from feeling uncomfortable? not everyone likes being around guns.

Free speech applies to opinions/protests and shit like that.
If you just stand around screaming at people sooner or later you'll get the cops called on you and they'll ask you to stop and if you keep doing it they'll get you for disturbing the peace or another charge of that nature.

If I saw people with open carry guns inside, I would find another place to eat. And I believe this is a common enough sentiment to affect business.
I'm not against people having guns, but I don't want to see it. If I see someone with a gun outside a shooting range, I'm inclined to think they're going to use it.
Though this is all moot because I wouldn't go to Chipotle to begin with.
I'm a parking officer (don't hate me) at my University and I've always been told to report firearms I spot in cars. I've never came across that scenario until yesterday when I saw a shotgun on the back floorboard of a pickup truck and a Glock between the driver seat and console. University Police showed up after I called it in and started getting the guys info so they could tell him they aren't allowed on campus. While a cop was getting my info the other one said "Oh wait, Georgia law says you're allowed to bring firearms on campus now...". Kinda disconcerting that you could have an assault rifle in your vehicle in plain view in a school parking lot and no one can do anything about it.
Why can't there be a bin for guns similar to umbrellas? Or a need-a-penny-take-a-penny style need-a-gun-take-a-gun/have-a-gun-give-a-gun?
It's hilarious that these people treat it so lightly and can't see why a group of AR-15 wielding asshats spread so much anxiety where they go. Herpderp 2nd amendment, mah rights to bear arms!
It's just irresponsible, you aren't the police and it's not your duty to protect anything, especially with lethal force. Protect your own house and property? Sure. Carry a concealed weapon to protect yourself and your family in public, if necessary, sure. Just walk around in a group with rifles strapped to your back, go home you nutter.
I don't want to live in a world where someone stealing a candy bar suddenly turns the local gas station into a guerilla warfare shooting gallery.
They're completely free to do this, but it will literally change nothing. No one with ill intent cares if you don't allow guns.

And downright irresponsible. That person has now given whoever passes by the opportunity to steal and potentially use their guns. I can't stand how lax some people treat firearms, as if they were toys.
