(CNN)Police in Detroit made a gruesome discovery Tuesday. A bailiff performing an eviction on a home on the east side of Detroit called 911 after discovering the body of a child inside a freezer. While investigating the body of a girl, authorities found a boy's body, according to a release from the Detroit Police Department. Both bodies were inside a plastic bag, Detroit Police Chief James Craig said. The mother of the children was apprehended at a separate location, Officer Jennifer Moreno said. Police have not yet released her name, but are questioning her. The names of the children have not been released, but Craig said the boy was approximately 11 years old and the girl was approximately 14. There were two older children living in the home. They have been placed in protective custody, according to Craig.
http://www.cnn.com/2015/03/24/us/michigan-bodies-freezer/index.html What the fuck?! [editline]24th March 2015[/editline] I'm so sorry, this was almost the entire article.
That's some running scared shit right there. I feel sorry for the kids, I can't imagine the shit they've had to endure.
Detroit is just something out of a fucking Stephen King novel. I can't believe we haven't walled the place off yet.
Why exactly is Detroit so bad?
Corruption that makes Chicago look good, a near-dead job market, rampant crime, mass urban decay...
iirc they also don't even have running water for a third of the city. I saw it from a distance and it even looks bad.
Why exactly is Detroit so bad?
basically detroit used to have a huge car manufacturing industry back in the day, and with the slow decline of american manufacturing came the slow decline of detroit. high racial tensions and a huge riot in 1967 led to a lot of middle and upper class white people leaving downtown detroit (referred to as white flight). now the city has huge debt, corruption, horrible job market, and massive crime problems. you can buy a house in detroit in some places for $1000 because of bad neighbourhoods and wide-spread foreclosures. some people consider detroit to be nothing more than a glorified urban slum.
as someone that lives near detroit and visits frequently, it is improving. Currently, there is a large influx is middle-upper middle class college students, grads, home owners, and entrepreneurs moving into the city. buildings are constantly being renovated and rented out now after years and even decades of neglect. while the city hasnt quite picked itself up off the ground, its working towards it. like someone that has been knocked out slowly coming to, the city is waking up and finally starting to do something about its issues. construction on the new red wings stadium is about to begin, businesses are starting up all over, and the middle class is moving back. the majority of downtown has seen a marked improvement. there are still some bad areas of the city, but as a whole, its the suburbs immediately surround detroit that are worse.

I live a nice drive south of Detroit and some of the suburbs are definitely in worse shape. Or at least not improving at all.
