What could go wrong? Only a head wound -- to the gunman, KLTV reports. The Cass County Sheriff said the motorist told deputies he was shooting at the armored little mammal in the wee hours Thursday on state Highway 77, near Marietta, south of Texarkana. A bullet ricocheted off the creature, striking him in the head. The unidentified marksman was treated at a local hospital for a minor wound. No word on the fate of the armadillo or the type of gun used. Deputies are investigating the incident as "a possible accidental shooting."
Why would you shoot an Armadillo? Those things can survive being run over by cars, a bullet isn't going to be much better.
Again?
Did he not learn anything from this news story: http://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1460838

Are Armadillos pests?
Are Armadillos pests?
Because they burrow a bit they are considered a nuisance by property owners.
Oh I see. What would be an effective solution to an Armadillo problem then?
Oh I see. What would be an effective solution to an Armadillo problem then?
Gassing them out or poison. They sell little gas grenades to deal with infestations.
what an idiot glad to see he got what he deserved
Why would you shoot an Armadillo? Those things can survive being run over by cars, a bullet isn't going to be much better.
I have yet to see an Armadillo survive being run over... Every time I see road kill on my way to work/school it's either an Armadillo or a Opossum.
Because they burrow a bit they are considered a nuisance by property owners.
More than "a bit". Armadillos can root up whole yards, vegetable gardens, etc. I'm not surprised people shoot them, but as for us we just spooked them when we saw them and they never came back. Also, some of them carry leprosy. Only one species but I don't think most people know there's a difference, or would be able to reliably count the bands on a moving armadillo anyway.
OK this is like the 5th or 6th time a person in the American southwest shot an armadillo and it backfired, please stop trying to kill these things, they're partly endangered as it is
Also, some of them carry leprosy.
WHAT THE FUCK

If he had used .45 STOPPAN POWA this wouldn't have happened
Because they burrow a bit they are considered a nuisance by property owners.
They burrow under the house and cause a fucking shit ton of damage. They're quite the pests. [editline]12th August 2015[/editline] Lol at everyone who's never seen an armadillo suddenly acting like they aren't pests, the things can single handedly destroy your foundation
Are Armadillos actually bulletproof or is it because bullets ricochet toward the shooter more often than we think, but only gets reported when it involves Armadillos?
Oh I see. What would be an effective solution to an Armadillo problem then?
30-06 or .308 will take care of it.
Because they burrow a bit they are considered a nuisance by property owners.
Over where I am (Florida state park system), they're more than just a bit of a nuisance. They're an invasive species and tend to really fuck up the ground sometimes.
Oh I see. What would be an effective solution to an Armadillo problem then?
Sledgehammers.
Oh I see. What would be an effective solution to an Armadillo problem then?
catching them and using their shells as armor in the human-armadillo war to come
Sledgehammers.
What if it bounces back and hits you?
What if it bounces back and hits you?
Then clearly you should just give up in all other aspects of life.
30-06 or .308 will take care of it.
Several sources claim that the guy was using a .38 revolver by the way.
Several sources claim that the guy was using a .38 revolver by the way.
Which is pretty close to 9mm.
The idiot probably used a .22 You need a higher powered rifle round to get through an Armadillo's shell. Little bastards are tough as nails.
Several sources claim that the guy was using a .38 revolver by the way.
.38 is a tiny babby bullet, equivalent to 9mm. The bullet from a .308 isn't much bigger, but it has significantly more gunpowder behind it; it flies more than twice as fast and has 7 times the kinetic energy.
Several sources claim that the guy was using a .38 revolver by the way.
Jesus christ. Why don't people use their brains. Should have used a .357 Magnum or a .44 Magnum or just a rifle. [editline]12th August 2015[/editline]
.38 is a tiny babby bullet, equivalent to 9mm. Not surprising it ricocheted really.
Are Armadillos actually bulletproof or is it because bullets ricochet toward the shooter more often than we think, but only gets reported when it involves Armadillos?
They're reported because you don't usually expect bullets to ricochet off an animal.
