[release]Director Tony Gilroy is looking to cast a big name as the villain in The Bourne Legacy, with Variety reporting that Edward Norton is now in negotiations to take on the role. After a lengthy casting search, the powers-that-be finally settled on Jeremy Renner take on the lead role in the Matt Damon-less reboot. Gilroy wrote the script for the film, which will take place in the same universe as the first three Bourne Identity flicks, though the character of Jason Bourne will be absent (which pretty much renders the “Bourne” in the title moot, save for franchise recognition). Rachel Weisz is also onboard to star in the film. Hit the jump for more.
Though Damon and Supremacy/Ultimatum director Paul Greengrass are absent, the actor has previously stated that as long as Legacy leaves the door open for his character to come back, he would be eager to return once again with Greengrass at the helm. However, if the A-list casting is any indication, Gilroy is looking to start a franchise of his own with Legacy.
Filming begins soon, with an August 3rd, 2012 release date looming overhead.[/release]

Laughed at the picture
Another Bourne movie? Yessss. Yesss!
Honestly, despite better criticism towards the last movie, my favorite will be the first.
Lets hope this one changes it. Either this one orthe Bourne Betrayal, the Bourne Sanction, the Bourne Deception or the Bourne Objective... if they decide to movieify any of those.
I honestly prefer Matt Damon as Bourne :/.
He's NOT Bourne this time?!
Whaaaaaat?
He is. Bourne isn't in this movie, though.
I wonder if like in the Painted Veil where he dies of cholera.
That would just be an awesome way for a villain to die in a bourne movie.
No Matt Damon and the original director isn't event directing this movie, yet it's part of the "series".
Really?
Edward Norton is my favorite person ever
i have a picture of him on my desk but it was a gag gift
it's framed and everything :)

Really?
Um the original director left the series after the first movie.
so it's not about Bourne, and it doesn't have Matt Damon, and it DOES star Jeremy Renner? 3 good reasons why I don't want to see this
i fucking hate jeremy renner
Why would they even call it "Bourne" if there's no Matt Damon? Calling it The Bourne Legacy just makes it sound like another piece of the series.
Edward Norton's so good though that I'll see it no matter what title they put on it. He's going to be in a new Wes Anderson movie along with Bruce Willis (and of course Bill Murray), I'm really excited for it.

so that's the book this is based off of, and from the looks of it, Jason Bourne definitely appears in it.
Why wouldn't he be in the movie?
