Scientists have created genetically modified cattle that produce "human" milk in a bid to make cows' milk more nutritious.
The scientists have successfully introduced human genes into 300 dairy cows to produce milk with the same properties as human breast milk.
Human milk contains high quantities of key nutrients that can help to boost the immune system of babies and reduce the risk of infections.
The scientists behind the research believe milk from herds of genetically modified cows could provide an alternative to human breast milk and formula milk for babies, which is often criticised as being an inferior substitute.
They hope genetically modified dairy products from herds of similar cows could be sold in supermarkets. The research has the backing of a major biotechnology company.
The work is likely to inflame opposition to GM foods. Critics of the technology and animal welfare groups reacted angrily to the research, questioning the safety of milk from genetically modified animals and its effect on the cattle's health.
But Professor Ning Li, the scientist who led the research and director of the State Key Laboratories for AgroBiotechnology at the China Agricultural University insisted that the GM milk would be as safe to drink as milk from ordinary dairy cows.
This is udderly brilliant.
But, why?

Seemingly, our milk is better for us.
Seemingly, our milk is better for us.
Well of course its better for us. It is specifically made for our children unlike cows milk which is made for there baby's.
Wow it's so hard to breastfeed let's just fuck up some cow genes
this is the first step, soon we will have genetically modified rabbits growing human ears for us
Wow it's so hard to breastfeed let's just fuck up some cow genes
Yes because milking humans is much better.
I thought this was around for years now...
Wow it's so hard to breastfeed let's just fuck up some cow genes
What's the problem with GM?
That just seems so wierd, I mean good Idea I guess and all.
Am I the only one finding this creepy as fuck?
Yes because milking humans is much better.
You don't even want to know what kind of mental images that brought up.
All i picture is some baby in a field of cows breastfeeding from them. :gonk:
Yeah I'm leaving this thread now.
Why don't we just do this instead?

Feminists would get so pissed.
Human milk? Would be dangerous for us. We are not used to Human milk at older age. The stuff in it isn't what the cows produces.
We have drank cow milk for many years. If we suddenly start drinking human milk, we will become sick.

Babies should drink from their mothers breasts.
Not some government milk. You never know what they add.

its called adapting.
we keep drinking this cow milk, and we get used to it.
not to mention its probably not even bad for us in the first place.

[/hillbilly]
The possibility's! Human icecream, butter, ect.
can we just stick to cow milk everybody
What's the problem with GM?
The problem with GM is that you're messing with the basic genetic code of an organism. We don't have the RIGHT to be messing with nature, for starters.
More seriously though, we don't understand it enough to be doing this; it's entirely possible that a genetically modified cow could be the perfect breeding- and mutation-ground for a number of viruses that would then go on to devastate cattle populations.
It could be that the bodies of GM cows would be the perfect home for microbes or insects that would otherwise be rejected by cows. This favouratism would result in a boom in the populations of these microbes/insects, which would in turn drive down the populations of whatever these bugs/insects feed on.
There's a balance, and we're fucking with it. And I don't like that.
Saying we don't have the right to mess with nature is saying we don't have the right to advance as a species, and saying such a thing is pure stupidity. You do have a point about upsetting the ecosystems and I have no good counter against it so I'll just be quiet.

It's gonna be governement cheese all over again
Wow it's so hard to breastfeed let's just fuck up some cow genes
Yeah I mean adults should just stop being lazy and breastfeed I mean why don't they?
Saying we don't have the right to mess with nature is saying we don't have the right to advance as a species, and saying such a thing is pure stupidity.
We don't have the right to advance as a species if the only means of doing so is to mess with nature. The most egotistical, dick-head thing I've ever heard anybody say is that we're 'more important' than the world around us.
Don't get me wrong, I ain't no vegetarian. I'm all for the natural process of things. Just don't expect me to be happy with the idea of ruining this fragile world we're on.
I think we should put lactating women into machines that milk them, and sell the milk as we do cow milk.
This is udderly ridiculous.
