Pokemon fans in Japan can now sign up for a Pokemon Go "field test," developer Niantic has announced. This field test will start in Japan later this month (Japanese gamers can sign up here) and will come to other countries in the weeks to come. "The Pokemon Company and Niantic will be inviting users to field test Pokemon Go in Japan later this month," Niantic said. "The Pokemon Go field test program will give a limited number of users early access to the app. These users will have the opportunity to share early feedback and help improve the Pokemon Go experience for everyone prior to public launch." Pokemon Go will let players catch, train, and battle monsters in the real world, though Niantic has yet to provide any specifics on how this will work. Users will be able to play the game with an optional device called Pokemon Go Plus. Much like a smartwatch, it can be worn on the wrist and used to execute in-game actions such as catching a Pokemon. The device will connect to smartphones using Bluetooth, and will flash its LED and vibrate to notify players about nearby Pokemon. I'll see if I can get in and I'll let you guys know how it is.
I signed up on a VPN so hopefully that went through for me
I signed up on a VPN so hopefully that went through for me
What use would it be outside japan?
What use would it be outside japan?
you never know if it will work outside of Japan
you never know if it will work outside of Japan
Well it probably won't considering that people outside of Japan will not have Softbank, NTT, or AU cellular plans.
even if you use a VPN, you'd have to do mock locations from the very get go to play in non japan countries it's kinda a location aware game after all
you never know if it will work outside of Japan
You'd have to spoof your location and change it constantly. Good luck with that, and it will be locked for any who doesn't have a JP phone registered to JP google play account. There are many Apps I cannot install or see on the Play Store because of this, even on a US VPN.
i imagine it'll be a google play beta it won't be completely locked out (not all tpc/niantic staff live in jp), but anyone who isn't a niantic/tpc account will probably be flagged if their gps location is ever not in japan
Can't wait to be Team Rocket and steal other people's Pokemons from their phones.
won't be surprised if a year from now there's been at least one court case over hacked/stolen pokemon
I seems like a very interesting concept. But I'm still waiting form some GUI overview of how the game actually will look. I'm still psyched for it.
man i really want this to be good this is the key to unlock my long awaited dream of becoming a real pokemon trainer
To use Pokémon GO you must have either a: - iPhone 5 or above - Android phone with the update version 4.3 (Jelly Bean) or above
won't be surprised if a year from now there's been at least one court case over hacked/stolen pokemon
there's already quite a few issues between people over ingress in my city
won't be surprised if a year from now there's been at least one court case over hacked/stolen pokemon
Prepare for trouble
To use Pokémon GO you must have either a: - iPhone 5 or above - Android phone with the update version 4.3 (Jelly Bean) or above
Not a big deal for Android users but that's gonna be a pain to iPhone users who aren't up to date since they'll have to either go without or physically but new hardware.
there's already quite a few issues between people over ingress in my city
There is a lot of issues between people over ingress in my cell AF07-ROMEO 12, namely over small issues like destroyed guardians and operations. Also each team accuses the other of cheating, namely having shared accounts for storage and stuff like that. It went to the point that the faction leaders from the cell almost had a beef a couple of times and they can't even attend the same events so they don't have to see eachother. Oh well, I guess I'll be an early adopter of this Pokemon game, since Ingress is just fights and headaches around here some times that is not worth the time and fuel. One thing that I really hope is that they don't screw up with the logistics of the new game, I am sure that players will have to submit special locations like Poke Centers and stores and places for whatever gimmick they will have to actually make people meet up and fight with their pokemons, because in my area there wasn't a single portal accepted on Ingress for the last year, and I got some submissions from the beginning of 2014 yet to be reviewed.
I think the battle capabilities of this will be the deciding factor in if this will be a gamechanger for Pokemon or another throwaway collectathon app.

I signed up.

The only reason I'm still on ingress right now is because I'm one of the community founders and we literally have our secret society for all the high-end operations. I'm just part of that now I don't even play the game itself. But goddamn I love guardian hunting, everyone on the other team pretty much hates me. Its like griefing but its not wrong because its part of actual gameplay.
