• Tesla and Panasonic strikes deal to reopen idled Osaka solar cell factory
Panasonic is a major manufacturer of solar panels with several factories in Asia, but earlier this year, it decided to shut down one in Osaka – citing falling demand for rooftop solar installation in Japan following changes in net metering tariffs. Last night, Japan’s Nikkei reported that Panasonic is reopening the factory following a contract to supply panels to Tesla’s SolarCity
https://electrek.co/2016/12/16/tesla-panasonic-deal-supply-solar-panels/
I've always personally felt solar in urban areas is mostly a bandaid fix. Should just switch to nuclear, but especially in Japan I don't see that happening much anymore.

But yeah, the energy output is laughable compared to modern nuclear, so they're not even comparable.
I wonder if this has to do with Trump's meeting with the tech leaders

Sounds like the factory isn't going to be building Tesla panels, rather it will make Panasonic panels that will be sold to SolarCity in a contract deal. As it stands, SolarCity doesn't make its own panels except at the Buffalo plant. Basically, Tesla's telling it's bff in business to rev up the factory and they'll buy what comes out of it.

They collaborate on the designs.
