Tesla and Panasonic strikes deal to reopen idled Osaka solar cell factory

I've always personally felt solar in urban areas is mostly a bandaid fix. Should just switch to nuclear, but especially in Japan I don't see that happening much anymore.

It's more of a way to put roofs to good use given they're positioned correctly.

But yeah, the energy output is laughable compared to modern nuclear, so they're not even comparable.

in osaka? rather i think tesla is looking for a market to test the solar roof and japan is a pretty good place for it to start

Sounds like the factory isn't going to be building Tesla panels, rather it will make Panasonic panels that will be sold to SolarCity in a contract deal. As it stands, SolarCity doesn't make its own panels except at the Buffalo plant. Basically, Tesla's telling it's bff in business to rev up the factory and they'll buy what comes out of it.

Panasonic are working with Tesla to build their panels, like how they build Tesla's batteries. They collaborate on the designs.
