So in my literary development class (It's called my english class, but literary development sounds cooler) we were asked to pick something that changed our lives, I decided to go with the mindset of odd small events are what really change us, so I decided to write about Facepunch and how it had done me over.

My initial time on Facepunch was short lived, unfortunately I had gotten myself banned within my first few hours of being logged in. At that time I found myself astonished, normally I would get a warning from a moderator before being banned on other websites, but this time I landed in a different situation. This incident, despite the scorn I had for the moderators at the time, had a major affect on my life and how I lived it. I came to the realization that things are not always going to go the way you are used to, rules change and authority isn't always fair, and even then you still cannot use your ignorance as a crutch for your misdoings, you're better off facing the consequences and learning your lesson.
Before I ever saturated myself in the 'personality' of Facepunch I had tended to close myself in and forget there was ever such a thing as the outside world. However the instant I began reading posts in Facepunch I found these thoughts to be completely arrogant and began to reconsider how I thought, eventually opinions were formed and I found myself stumbling upon things that no person should ever have to see. I forced myself to watch these things, to see how honest the world really is and quite frankly it is not something I will ever allow myself to forget.
Up until the 8th grade I was lucky enough to have avoided such horrors. I had no real care for school or learning in general, back then I would continue to whine about how boring classes were and wishing for summer break to come slightly faster. My spelling and general vocabulary was that of a sixth grader typing to his friends over MSN. All these traits were later washed away by Facepunch and its simple 'smartness' system. The smartness system was basically a point based statistic that would deduct around thirty-two points for every grammar and spelling mistake and would only add a single point for every correct post. Being the competitive person I was I strove for a perfect score, this of course meant improving my spelling and grammar which triggered a chain reaction of enhanced vocabulary and a need for knowledge. Eventually school no longer seem so bad and when summer break came about I felt a pit of disappointment in my chest.
Oddities like that are common, yet they still go beyond what most consider to be normal, that is how people define odd: something unusual that does not fit in with the common theme. Facepunch in this sense is indeed an oddity, in no other site have I been graced with such difference and mess of behaviors, rules, and general thought processes. Though it is indeed these little oddities in life that really smooth out our personalities and development. Without these I doubt any of us would be who we are today.

I didn't actually think I was writing highly of myself, if you could point out specific spots of my arrogance I'd actually be pretty grateful.

Other than that it was fairly well-written, and the only part that really had the essence of "self-flattery" was when you described yourself as having the "personality to remember the odd things in life." It's just the way you worded it that made it seem so.

Yeah. I definitely know what you mean, that part was edited into a more "I'm positive" I'm this way sort of sentence because of a peer edit. The original sentence was more along the lines of:

Compared to how I used to spell and type I'd say my improvement was pretty big.
