According to Benchmark analyst Mike Hickey, Activision Blizzard might be looking to acquire Take-Two Interactive Software, the publishers of the hit game Grand Theft Auto V. Hickey mentioned that “an emerging romance” has started between the two companies, prompting Take-Two stock prices to reach a six-year high.
http://www.playstationlifestyle.net/2014/08/29/activision-buyout-take-two-happening/ http://news.investors.com/technology-click/082914-715340-ttwo-subject-of-takeover-talk-by-atvi.htm
Don't do it! DO NOT DO IT
so will we eventually reach a point where all companies are part of or subsidiaries of a single other company that has total control of all market areas within the next millenia or so?
so will we eventually reach a point where all companies are part of or subsidiaries of a single other company that has total control of all market areas within the next millenia or so?
we have to start megacorporations somewhere [editline]29th August 2014[/editline] activision is the ocp of video games
You see this is where capitalism fails, when bigger corporations just start buying all the smaller ones until there's almost no competition left.
You see this is where capitalism fails, when bigger corporations just start buying all the smaller ones until there's almost no competition left.
Or there is just extreme competition between like 2 or 3 companies.
Good luck. Take Two investors are quite happy already.
That's what extensive anti-monopoly laws are for.
Cause that worked for Comcast, right?
All the naysayers, saying this will be bad. When EA picked up Battlefield, did they fu- wait a second.
Breaking news from E3 2017: Activision has just announced their latest lineup of upcoming video games! Grand Theft Auto IX is slated for release in Q3 and sees the series step outside the United States for the first time, taking place instead in a wartorn Middle Eastern country. Bobby Kotick said the series would be taking a "bold new direction" and showed a teaser trailer unveiling the game's protagonist, Matthew "Wolf" Briggs, an elite member of the USMC. The game will also feature a first-person view mode for the first time and Kotick said the game would mark a renewed focus on multiplayer in the GTA series. Treyarch-Firaxis showed off the latest Civilization game, coming to Xbox One and PS4 in November with a possible PC release rumoured for next year. The studio confirmed that Civilization VII would build on the previous title's move towards tactical gameplay, with an overhauled combat system that inserts the player into the battlefield to fight enemy forces in first-person. Multiplayer at launch will focus on this new tactical mode, although an Activision spokesperson said an "expanded multiplayer experience" may be added later as DLC. Also revealed was Civilization Elite, a monthly subscription service which allows players to get highly detailed statistics about their Civ game history. Subscribers will also get all of the DLC packs for a reduced price and receive instant access to the Civilization IX beta next year. Finally, Activision showed an early teaser trailer for an as-yet-untitled Bioshock game. The game appears to be set in the modern day and the dubstep-ridden trailer hinted that the plot may focus on a war between the United States and Russia. A cryptic message on the Bioshock website instructs fans to keep checking for more information as E3 continues.
so will we eventually reach a point where all companies are part of or subsidiaries of a single other company that has total control of all market areas within the next millenia or so?
Isn't that what capitalism is all about ?
take-two declined an acquisition offer from EA based on the principal alone, they'll probably do the same thing again
take-two declined an acquisition offer from EA based on the principal alone, they'll probably do the same thing again
Lets hope so
You see this is where capitalism fails, when bigger corporations just start buying all the smaller ones until there's almost no competition left.
and then eventually SHADOWRUN
Ah, activision the second worst video game company next to that piece of shit EA.
take-two declined an acquisition offer from EA based on the principal alone, they'll probably do the same thing again
take-two also has the counterfeit money printer known as rockstar games
I remember EA tried to do it too when GTAIV was coming out. They were rejected.
You see this is where capitalism fails, when bigger corporations just start buying all the smaller ones until there's almost no competition left.
Reminds me of Romantically Apocalyptic. One big company trademarked literally everything. Falling in love cost $2000 Coffee cost $7000
That's what extensive anti-monopoly laws are for.
We don't have anti-monopoly laws in this country anymore. Ma Bell coalesced right back into AT&T and nobody said jack shit about it.
Ah, activision the second worst video game company next to that piece of shit EA.
Throw Ubisoft in there somewhere
Ah, activision the second worst video game company next to that piece of shit EA.
? Activision are excellent compared to Ubisoft and EA.
? Activision are excellent compared to Ubisoft and EA.
I agree... Activision is bad, Ubisoft was great back to bad, EA is the Prime Evil of Hell... I'm beginnning to believe that we are going to experiance a real-life version of Syndicate where megacorperations will appear, government is failing and falling apart, and now corperation start killing their competitiors litterly over bullshit.
EA is coming clean, and I'm still hoping for Ubisoft to make a turn-around. Anyway, I seriously DO NOT want Activision to come anywhere near 2K. 2K is a good company, and Activision would turn Borderlands into the next CoD and destroy the Civ series. Fortunately, it's pretty clear that at least Sid Meier will jump ship and start a new company if Activision does acquire 2K.
Will GTA suffer if that happens?

Imagine playing as a Chinese Spy to stop the evil Gandhi from firing all of his nukes on a City-State.
Well, Civilization of Duty would have a unique story, at least. Imagine playing as a Chinese Spy to stop the evil Gandhi from firing all of his nukes on a City-State.
That actually sounds fun.
Activision already assraped the Tony Hawk series and CoD, if they get the chance to do the same to GTA i'm fucking done. (User was banned for this post ("video macro" - Orkel))
I don't see this happening. Take-Two is doing way too good on their own to get bought.
Take-Two has it's flaws, GTA's multiplayer could have been alot better, the JayZ crap they pulled with NBA 2K13 etc. But it's gonna be alot worse if activision aquires it.
