On the morning of January 20, protests over Donald Trump's inauguration turned violent when black-clad "anti-fascist" protesters smashed storefronts and bus stops, hammered out the windows of a limousine and eventually launched rocks at a phalanx of police. Officers responded by launching smoke and flash-bang devices into the street to disperse the crowds. Six police officers were injured and 230 protesters were arrested that day. On Tuesday, a grand jury in DC charged five individuals. This was in addition to the 209 other defendants who've been indicted on rioting charges earlier this month. Felony rioting carries a maximum of 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $25,000. The indictment accuses the defendants of using a tactic called "Black Bloc" in which people conceal their identities with dark or black clothing and accessories such as scarves, sunglasses, helmets and masks. They assaulted a limousine driver, smashed windows of local businesses, destroyed a government vehicle and committed "violent and destructive acts," according to the indictment.
They should've worn brown instead of black for added historical irony
Well, good. Violent, riotous protest should not be condoned or endorsed. Those perpetrating it need to be held accountable -- so long as sufficient evidence exists to prove the charged individuals were actually rioting as opposed to simply being part of a crowd.
What ever happened to the journalists that got caught up in the arrests?
Good. Protesting is one thing (and it's okay to do - a majority of protesters on that day were being peaceful and they didn't get arrested), but smashing up buildings and cars, and hurling missiles at the police, is just completely moronic. They didn't have to act antisocially; they brought this upon themselves. Being a violent protester does no good for your cause whatsoever (it only harms the image of the cause, in the eyes of the public). But if they're anything like the far-left protesters here, they were probably anarchists who only joined the peaceful protests just so that they could cause mischief; they care more about 'fighting the state' than actual issues like wealth inequality or social justice.

And before anyone comments with 'police state', 'fascist' or 'Donald Trump', do keep this in mind:
The DC Police had said that the several hundred demonstrators who actively confronted officers were vastly outnumbered by the thousands of nonviolent protesters who swarmed the nation's capital for Inauguration Day and the Women's March, held the day after.
When will people ever learn that smashing shit and burning everything is only going to help the government and hurt their standings with the people at large?
Taking your anger out on someone's store window, doesn't make Trump any less your president.
Not bad batting average when there were 3 million protestors in DC that day.
Most of the protesters would have had their faces covered... how were they identified after the protest? Or am I not reading the article correctly?

Violent action is the best and works wonders. But also you can get charged. That's the point. Any rioter that's not prepared to face justice is at best a daydreaming fool. I do not think a president's inauguration is something you're going to want to disturb when there is nothing at stake. Usually you want to get something accomplished when you run the risk of ending up in prison.
They should've worn brown instead of black for added historical irony
I'm hoping this is some thing that I don't know about otherwise it sure as fuck seems racist. Edit: Was this the one where the guy posted on 4chan crying about how the Police did something this time?

God speed my good men. Not that I encourage vandalism, but man does it make for great television.
Serves them right. Everybody is welcome to protest whatever they like, but you deserve everything you get if you start rioting about it.
