A woman who grossly physically abused a young boy, who was found with hundreds of bruises and serious facial injuries, has been jailed by a Melbourne judge sickened by her actions. The County Court heard that during Julie Sevigny's three days of abuse she forced dog excrement into the boy's mouth and made him drink her urine and then poured it over his head. Judge Lisa Hannan was told on Monday that after he woke from an induced coma in the Royal Children's Hospital last November, he had more than 230 bruises on his body, there were ulcers and cuts to his mouth, his face was misshaped and his eyes so swollen he could not see. In sentencing Sevigny, 41, Judge Hannan pondered "how you could offend against a vulnerable ... child in this manner simply beggars belief". "Any right-minded person will be sickened by your actions," she told Sevigny, who pleaded guilty to charges of intentionally causing injury, recklessly causing serious injury and common law assault. Sevigny, who has no prior convictions, was jailed for four years and nine months and was ordered to serve a minimum of three years and three months. She will serve the sentence in protection given the nature of her crimes. Too lenient. 20 years to life.
I usually avoid having opinions on jail times, but given the nature of the crime I agree with zone. Defenitely too lenient.
There's no excuse for this kind of behaviour. And what's worse is that four years really doesn't seem like enough. Five or six years at the very least would be barely acceptable.
The sentencing is a joke for the crimes she committed. Kid is going to be scarred for the rest of his life and he has a very short reprieve before his abuser is back out there.
The article says she picked the child up from school, but it doesn't actually mention if he was her kid or not.. It scares me to think that this might not have been the only time she did this.
Too lenient. 20 years to life.
There's no point in imprisoning her for longer if her problems are never solved. She obviously did this for a reason.
There's no point in imprisoning her for longer if her problems are never solved. She obviously did this for a reason.
Implying prison fixes anyone anyway.
There's no point in imprisoning her for longer if her problems are never solved. She obviously did this for a reason.
reason; shes fucked
4 years for mentally and physically torturing a child that will be scarred for the rest of his/her life? Lol what
People go to jail longer for marijuana. What a joke the legislation systems of the world are
Implying prison fixes anyone anyway.
Yeah ok the current system isn't the best but that doesn't mean horrific offenders like this ought to get pussy ass sentences
She will serve the sentence in protection given the nature of her crimes.
A solitary cell with no human contact except with guards walking their rounds. Seems appropriate.
I wouldn't protest her getting the death penalty. I am not saying she deserves it, but I wouldn't see it as a big deal if she got it.
This "woman" doesn't deserve protection of any kind. Also, only 4 years? I think 20 would be better.
she got a light sentence because she pleaded guilty.
she got a light sentence because she pleaded guilty.
The possible sentence she would have received had she pleaded not guilty wouldn't have been that much higher either.
I think that maybe she should have gone to a mental institution instead.
People go to jail longer for marijuana. What a joke the legislation systems of the world are
Not in Australia they don't. [editline]6th October 2014[/editline] What I find weird though is who the child is. Is the kid her son? That would worry me more than anything else in the article.
What an awfully short punishment. What crime is the equivalent to this in terms of jail time, in Australia?
Here is what this woman needs, inhumane or not, people that do this shit deserves to fucking die And don't tell me she can be rehabilitated, she has to be beyond the point of fucking mental illness to do this crazy ass shit.
Lmao I think the age of the picture sort of indicates which time period your idea of justice belongs in.
I'm disappointed he didn't grab a pic of the last guy(Ronald Ryan) executed in Australia.
There's no point in imprisoning her for longer if her problems are never solved. She obviously did this for a reason.
I don't think anything in the world justifies physically and mentally torturing an innocent child for days.
I'm pretty sure she isn't going to be seeing her child after the sentence as-well.
I don't think anything in the world justifies physically and mentally torturing an innocent child for days.
Nobody said anything about justification though?
I wouldn't protest her getting the death penalty. I am not saying she deserves it, but I wouldn't see it as a big deal if she got it.
So you're saying she deserves it.
So you're saying she deserves it.
I think what he was meaning is, she doesn't deserve the death penalty period, he's fine with other sentencing.
I'd hate to be so contrary but I think people are understating how big of a deal 4 years is, compounded with the felony and likely sex offense charges meaning she'll never be able to function in society no matter how reformed she becomes as no one will hire her, associate with her or want to live anywhere close. Having a criminal record is a life sentence.
But now she has nothing to lose, so she is most likely to repeat it or do something else fucked up.
When you are on crack this happens, it's no excuse she should have got 10 year at least, she must never see the boy again.
