CONCRETE, Wash. (AP) — A 43-year-old man has died after authorities say he accidentally shot himself in the face while taking selfies. The Skagit Valley Herald reports the man and his girlfriend were photographing themselves with the weapon on Sunday at a residence when he shot himself. Skagit County Sheriff's Office Patrol Chief Chad Clark says the woman reported that she and the man had taken photos with the gun several times that day and that the man had loaded and unloaded bullets multiple times. Clark says a bullet apparently remained in the gun the final time he fired. The death is being investigated as accidental. The man's name has not been released.
http://bigstory.ap.org/article/d2bef9410eef435da139cd4ea4493451/sheriff-man-taking-selfies-gun-fatally-shoots-himself
Deja Vu?
Social darwinist jokes aside, remember that whenever you unload the payload of your weapon, check to make sure a bullet isn't still in the chamber. And flip the safety on anyway just incase, or you can end up like this guy. On one hand I want to say he doesn't sound super retarded or anything, but any sort of selfie that has a gun pointed towards your face is pretty much asking for some sort of trouble.
I can't even point an airsoft gun at my own head in jest for some kind of stupid "selfie" because of how drilled into me the "don't point guns at things you don't want to shoot" rule is. Why anyone would point a gun at themselves and take pictures with it is beyond me. Hell, why they'd point it at themselves at all is beyond me.
Always keep your weapon pointed in a safe direction. Always keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to fire. Always treat your weapon as if it were loaded and ready to fire, even when you are certain it is not. I don't understand what's so hard about this.

Unloaded or not. It's silly to imply it's ok to do so if you "know" it's unloaded and the safety is on imo. They aren't toys...
The way this title is worded implies that he was still taking selfies after he shot himself.
Sorry my state has to get known for this. Never heard "washington man" before.
this would happen in concrete

Not, going to lie dont feel sorry for him
Natural selection doin' work.

This is what happens when you treat firearms as toys and not a responsibility.
The interesting part of the article is that we apparently have a town called Concrete. Never heard of that one before.

This is what happens when you buy guns without actually knowing how they work and not learning gun safety.
Deja Vu?
Didn't this happen to a Russian woman a while ago
Didn't this happen to a Russian woman a while ago
I think I´ve heard of it happening 4 times by now due to handguns alone. :V
Sorry my state has to get known for this. Never heard "washington man" before.
Trust me, bro. This isn't Washington Man. Washington Man would be something more like the infamous Mr. Hands, whose death as a result of him having sex with horses yielded bestiality being criminalized in 2005/2006 in Washington (until then it was legal), or even Barry Swegle, a resident of my own home-town, who destroyed 4 homes with a bulldozer and got his own news thread right here on Facepunch.
Natural selection doin' work.
Fuck that's my line. But in all seriousness you are correct and that's why I always say this when I see these stories of people "accidentally" shooting themselves. If you're handling a loaded gun with the safety off AND putting it against your head to take a selfie of all reasons, you're pretty much asking for trouble. No sympathy for this guy, he should have known better.
yeah dude fuck this guy lol he deserved to die
you're the one saying it, not he.
yeah dude fuck this guy lol he deserved to die
Well, being so careless and irresponsible with a gun, he might have accidentally killed his girlfriend or somebody else. Better him than some innocent victim.
It's true that Selfies causes more fatalities than normal accidents. Why would anyone think it's a good idea to take a selfie with a dangerous weapon or an item?
It's true that Selfies causes more fatalities than normal accidents. Why would anyone think it's a good idea to take a selfie with a dangerous weapon or an item?
Because they want to look tough/hardcore and are too stupid to realize, "Hey this is dangerous and probably shouldn't be done, maybe I should content myself with posting pictures of nature scenes/cars/dogs and cats instead?" Maybe he did realize it was dangerous and just didn't care. I don't know. This was just stupid any which way you choose to look at it. Totally preventable. Oh well.
Natural selection.
