Could the viewers vote in the first season?
When it first aired in Denmark, it was treated like a real reality show, with ads explaining who got eliminated, and what drama that was happening etc. CN seemed to put a lot of pride in it.
That, along with the flash animation, made early teen me assume that each episode was rushed, in order to make the real life vote thing work. So I didn't even give it a chance.
I would've never thought that this show was what started popularizing story driven cartoons.
My little brother and dad loved to watch this, I couldn't get into it but they would wait for each episode.
This show was weirdly good. I can't put my finger on it but I really enjoyed out when it was on

I think the first couple of seasons were good because it was an original idea that played with it's parody nature well and they put some effort in to their characters. After that, their characters either became more flanderized or else had such strange shifts in personality. And the parody nature began to become just a mess. And looking at it just now, seasons 1 and 2 were directed by the same people, then directing was handed off to others.
I'm the kind of guy who sometimes gets into parodies of something more than the thing that it is parodying, so when I saw TDI on CN back when it was airing over here, I was enthralled. I ended up absolutely loving the show, watching the first three seasons on TV as they aired over here, before switching to PC with the fourth, and stopping mid-way through the sixth.
I recall the version of the show aired here being the Canadian version, since it had scenes like this. But even then, they made sure to have each season end differently depending on region. I don't recall who won the first two over here, but I distinctly remember who won the third here, as I edited the Total Drama Wikia's page on the episode to reflect it - an edit that seemed to have been undone 3 minutes after I made it.
And I still remember the only time I decided to look into the fandom. It was horrifying.
To be fair he pretty much skipped why CN took that god awful CN Real shit and it had to do with the 2007 Boston ATHF scare in which Cartoon Network put up mooninite's all over boston and it caused a huge shit how that ultimately left the CN general manager to step down
New GM fucked everything up and eventually had to change his tune after the CN real crap blew up in his face

The single event that ruined a cartoon channel. RIP.

I think there was something like that. I do remember in the first season, in a majority of countries it was shown that [sp]Owen[/sp] won, but in some other countries it was shown that [sp]Gwen[/sp] won instead.
Not gonna lie, I loved the first and third season of the show(Action not so much). Anything after the first trailed off to be its own thing but the first was a really nice parody of survivor.

I think even the creators knew how dumb that whipping sound effect was.
When I was younger I definitely wasn't much of a fan of TDI and would straight up go to the point of turning the TV off and finding something else to do (ha, same thing with PPG) but I guess it eventually grew on me. Vaguely kept an eye on the beginning of the second season but eventually forgot about it until a few months ago when I remembered about it and was suprised to find out it had 5 seasons.
@JT: Holy fuck at one point I swear that was on in even higher frequency than TT:GO is (err, was as of the last time I really watched tv a few months ago). CN has such a thin lineup at times.
I remember I used to have a crush on the Goth girl when this shit was airing.

same but I had a crush on the asshole asian chick

For some reason I didn't realize Heather was supposed to be Asian for the longest time.
That's so weird, I consider TDI to be part of the "new" Cartoon Network but it really has been a decade since it aired. It was at that point where I felt too old to watch CN but still had a guilty pleasure for it while pretending to myself that I hated it.
I watched it in America but definitely recall the "meatballs" being called testicles in-show, am I the only one? I remember being shocked that the show could get away with it.
Also I don't know what this guy is talking about, Camp Lazlo was pretty good

She is?

Yeah I remember the censorship as well. I watched the show pretty religiously, at least season 1.
Dropped somewhere in the 2nd series. Not because it was bad I just sorta forgot about it.
The first season had some balls, especially when they showed Heather's censored tits. The later seasons were pretty boring really, and all they go for is to make the viewer grossed out its a shame, Ridonculous Race is a step in the right direction though.
I'm pretty sure one of the people who worked on the show mentioned it being inspired by Clone High and it shows a lot especially the art style unless they are probably the same people who worked on it.

Ye 12 year old me nearly died on the episode where her skirt got ripped off on the rock climbing challenge.
I remember I got the winner of season spoiled to me on fucking Runescape. Such simpler times I guess :v:

There's enough footage here that i can almost tell what the plot of the episode is.

There's so much it's practically a straight "pirated" episode.
