In the week when Royal Mail staff are being asked to try out hissing sprays to put off aggressive dogs, inventors have come up with a new way to stop pets putting the bite on mailmen.
Swiss company Saciri has launched a range of boxer-style gumshields for dogs which they claim neutralises their bites by up to 90 percent.
"We got the idea from the boxing ring and thought - well what about boxer dogs. The dogs seem to like them because they've always got something to chew.
"And anyone making a delivery will certainly be grateful that all they'll get now is a nasty suck," said a spokesman.

My dog bit the postmans fingers when he put a letter through the door, so now we have a note warning not to stick your fingers in.
she never bites in any other circumstances, its only letters she dislikes. She barks a lot though.

all this will do is train them to bite harder and more often to get a reaction, and then when the stupid rubber things come off they'll kill something

Wouldn't this make it harder for them to eat unless you put it on only when a delivery comes? If you can control your dog enough to hold them down and put this on their mouths, you can control them enough to just hold them down until the guy leaves.

Can't say I think it's a bad idea. If a large dog really wanted to hurt you, it could do a LOT of damage - and there really wouldn't be much you could do in the spur of the moment.
Seeing as I have a phobia from dogs, something like this would be a life-saver.
The plastic shields do not solve the main problem behind the dog's behavior: the dog's owner.
And if I was a postman and a dog attacked me, I would, with no regret, give it as much pain as possible.

It's legal actually and the dog is in the right. Postmen have no need to put their fingers in when posting a letter and the dog is only defending it's territory. Postal workers are told about it.
