I'm not one to post this sort of stuff but really I don't want to lose these 2 wonderful services
There's been a lot of push to suppress the ABC and even the SBS because Rupert Murdoch doesn't like them, the Liberals said they wouldn't touch the ABC nor the SBS but this is starting to be a big fat lie
Online petitions normally don't do shit but GetUp! are a huge organization in Australia that get behind big issues

I think you can only sign it if you're Australian but yeah right now there is over 201k signatures
Cheers
Ugh, why would they even do that? Murdoch is literally the worse.
Doesn't help that they are pretty much the only networks that criticise the Liberal Government.
Please sign this, the ABC is a great station especially and doesn't need more funding cuts
Oh my god no.
One of my old university tutors had something to say about this which hit the nail on the head.
Don't normally share stuff like this, but the ABC and SBS are really the only place that you get real news from, mainly BECAUSE they don't have to make money from advertising and to 'please' the audience.
Also their shows and docos aren't just entertainment, they're a community service.
They should exist for the betterment of society in the long run, regardless of what people think they want and not just to entertain superficially like everything on Foxtel. Their online stuff is the only way I watch tv anymore.
The sooner commercial TV and radio stations die the better.
I also don't want Tripple J to going away.
And if ABC and SBS is privatised, all the locally imported stuff will be gone which means NITV, Australian story, triple J and more could get the axe
What the fuck, are you serious? I grew up with ABC and SBS.
Noooo, my entire family watches Good Game every Tuesday night on ABC. It's practically a ritual.
I had no idea how much the libs are completely neglecting the ABC and SBS to the point that they want them pretty much gone.
This is terrible.
Murdoch has been trying to do the same with the BBC over here for many years. They print absolute shit in their papers about the BBC and to take the piss they don't declare that their owners also partly own a pay TV company called BSkyB.

Rupert owns the only Pay TV service in Australia, Foxtel and BSkyB have a huge influence in Sky News Australia
If SBS goes I won't be able to watch Get Smart at 10am, oh dear.
Yeah the right-wing is trying to destroy the CBC here as well
It's what inevitably happens when we continue to elect governments that favour corporations over its own citizens
My grandparents love ABC and SBS, they're going to be shocked when they find out about this.
Signed the hell out of that petition.
There's a push to get rid of public radio and TV here in the states because people my age seem to hate the programming they air.

I heard PBS is actually a really good with news, so good in fact that SBS actually airs PBS News hour everyday at around 4 or 5pm on SBS One

I really hope they don't, ABC News 24 is pretty much the only news channel I'll watch on TV (news 24 hours a day and the quality of the service benefits from not being for-profit), and I love the late night programs on both ABC and SBS. Tropfest, Wilfred etc.
I don't normally sign petitions but this is something I can get behind.
I can't imagine life (or, well, at least TV) without ABC and SBS. Losing them would be horrible.
I don't think we'll ever lose the ABC or SBS. If the Liberals defunded them, the backlash would be so great they wouldn't see the end of it until they got kicked out the following election. However, a lack of funding is a problem itself.

The lack of funding is pretty much the bullet to kill the ABC, the SBS sustains itself with advertising so they wouldn't feel the bite as much as the ABC
Still, I think there would be a huge backlash against the Liberals if the ABC was defunded or lost funding and had to close shop, Liberals make some terrible decisions but they're not stupid.
My Aunt and Dad watch ABC and SBS, while I watch mainly watch ABC 1, 2 and 24 (Now and then, I do watch others channels but that is stuff on Foxtel), I grew up with ABC and I watch SBS for Mythbusters, I do not want these channels to go or get any type of Funding Cut, Abbott has no idea on what he is doing.
Reminds me of Mitt Romney's PBS shit talking.
The loss of SBS would be simply unacceptable, no other channel has the balls to broadcast Erotic Ghost Story 3 and that movie taught me all about the birds and the bees (and the bisexual fox spirits).
Signed. Bigtime.
If the ABC were to go anywhere there would be a huge uproar, nobody is stupid enough to put it in danger. Cutting funds doesn't mean ABC is going anywhere either, it just means less staffing, lower budgets and probable advertising, which is obviously terrible yes, but right now it's just speculation and not much else.
The ABC isn't going anywhere. GetUp is just scaremongering as usual.
"If the ABC were to go anywhere there would be a huge uproar, nobody is stupid enough to put it in danger"
I personally wouldn't care if they went, I don't watch ABC or SBS, I find them "cheap" in comparison.

In comparison to what :v:
ABC, SBS and ABC iView are far more professional than anything provided in competition. Mostly because they have very few ads interrupting perfectly good programming.
Top Gear switching from SBS to channel nine confused the hell out of me and channel nine advertised every single Top Gear episode that hadn't been aired on channel nine as a brand new episode... When I did finally find an episode that was new they had cut content so they could fit in ads.
Not to mention all the ridiculous current affairs type tv shows other free to air stations have.

To channel Seven, Nine and Ten it seems cheap.
Just my personal opinion.
Murdoch is a piece of shit.
GetUp are notorious Anti-Liberal shit-stirrers. I'd take any of their "claims" with a big ol' grain of salt.
