In western Ukraine, the activists seized the regional government office in the city of Ivano-Frankivsk and are storming another one in Chernivtsi. Protests were reported in Lutsk, in the north-west, and Sumy, in the east. In the capital Kiev, new barricades were erected overnight as the main protest camp expanded. The Lviv regional state administration office resembles something from protest-hit Kiev. All around the building there are barricades of snow bags, tyres and wooden sticks. On Thursday, hundreds of anti-government protesters seized control here. Inside, I met "commandant" Andriy, the man in charge here now and the head of the local trade union. Andriy told me that the protesters were motivated by anger at what was happening in Kiev. They blame the authorities for the violence and for death of anti-government activist Yuri Verbytsky, who was from Lviv. He was found dead in a forest outside Kiev. "People," Andriy said, "have the right to rise up." It's a similar picture in other parts of western Ukraine, where protesters have been picketing local government offices and, in some cases, taking control. It's in this region that opposition to President Yanukovych has traditionally been strongest - and pro-Europe sentiment most keenly felt. Freezing demonstrators in Kiev's Independence Square - widely known as the Maidan - also occupied a government building as a truce with riot police continued. Meanwhile, the parliament of the Crimean Autonomous Republic - seen as a staunch supporter of Mr Yanukovych - urged the president to declare a state of emergency.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-25876807
Good. At this point the best outcome possible is a quick one.
Reading your title, I personally never saw the government with any control in the first place. Hopefully everything gets sorted out though, I have friends from the Ukraine who's family are still over there.
I'm certain papa Russia will come bring some "control" soon enough.
I'm certain papa Russia will come bring some "control" soon enough.
I dunno, I feel like the international backlash would be too costly.
Thank Goodness. I just hope they don't have anarchy for too long while trying to establish democracy.
I dunno, I feel like the international backlash would be too costly.
Like russia gives two fucks about the international community.
Like russia gives two fucks about the international community.
They care about their image, look at the shit they are pulling for the Olympics and now would be a bad time to screw that up.
Ukraine is in a particularly difficult place as far as international intervention since they're a historic buffer state between Russia and the EU. Any kind of action by either short of some sort of coordinated and equal plan between both would be viewed as aggressive and imperialistic.
Only a retard would write graffiti on stone tiles... you can't clean that up.
Your point?
Only a retard would write graffiti on stone tiles... you can't clean that up.
I think cleaning that off is the least of peoples worries right now..
They care about their image, look at the shit they are pulling for the Olympics and now would be a bad time to screw that up.
Which in turn means this was GREAT timing for the opposition of the goverment to strike. Russia can't do anything meaningful to help the sockpuppet goverment without getting busted.
Your point?
It was an attempt to be funny.
At this point the best outcome possible is a quick one.
Thats what I say whenever my girlfriend gets frisky.
Only a retard would write graffiti on stone tiles... you can't clean that up.
Good, they should leave it there so the next government can remember what happens if they fuck up.
Good, they should leave it there so the next government can remember what happens if they fuck up.
People are going to get mad and make walls inside government buildings look ugly?
People are going to get mad and make walls inside government buildings look ugly?
I think it's more of sending a message, than to just "make them look ugly".
Only a retard would write graffiti on stone tiles... you can't clean that up.
I think I just found out I'm dyslexic, I read that as "Happy Birthday" and I was wondering why the fuck they wrote that. [editline]25th January 2014[/editline] Also, why is there a picture of cows on the wall?
Cernauti? Nice. Good to see the ex-romanian territories fighting for democracy
I'm certain papa Russia will come bring some "control" soon enough.
They won't do diddly with the olympic games on the way.
They won't do diddly with the olympic games on the way.
That's what you think. They introduced a gay propaganda law just before the olympics. They'd probably annex eastern Ukraine in the name of stability.
That's what you think. They introduced a gay propaganda law just before the olympics. They'd probably annex eastern Ukraine in the name of stability.
I think it's time for everyone to remove their tin-foil hats, cause that certainly ain't gonna happen
