• Air New Zealand reviews workers Facebook page and Bank account all because she chucked a sicky
A New Zealand flight attendant was forced to show bosses her Facebook page and bank accounts in order to prove what she was doing while on sick leave. Gina Kensington was sacked by Air New Zealand earlier this year following a dispute over sick leave she took to care for her sister. She was dismissed over misuse of sick leave and took her case to the Employee Relations Authority (ERA) in New Zealand in an attempt to be reinstated. Air New Zealand retaliated by demanding to see bank statements and Facebook updates for the period she was not at work, and this request was upheld by the ERA, saying they would provide "substantially helpful" evidence. "The explanation for taking sick leave must be tested for veracity," ERA member Tania Tetitaha told Fairfax media.
http://finance.ninemsn.com.au/newsbusiness/8705366/air-nz-review-workers-facebook-page-over-sick-leave

"chucked a sicky" that's a first. [editline]13th August 2013[/editline] Uhhh
Better than American slang
Australian slang is weird
What part of Air New Zealand is lost on you?
"chucked a sicky" that's a first. [editline]13th August 2013[/editline] Uhhh
My employer: "I know that you are going to call in fake sick. I'm just letting you know now to not do that and actually tell me what you are doing that day. We all wanna be at the lake/cabin/ something fun other than work. Just bring me back something"
Another reason to not post everything you're doing on Facebook, and pay stuff in cash.
Why does it matter if she was actually sick or not? Everyone is entitled to sick days.
What part of Air New Zealand is lost on you?
You do realize Australian English is exactly the same as New Zealand English, we deprive it from the UK anyway
Why does it matter if she was actually sick or not? Everyone is entitled to sick days.
Yea this article would make more sense in America I think.
You do realize Australian English is exactly the same as New Zealand English, we deprive it from the UK anyway
That is the most appropriate (and suited) spelling mistake I've seen in a while.
Why does it matter if she was actually sick or not? Everyone is entitled to sick days.
I thought that point of dedicated amount of sickdays was that it was a don't ask don't tell deal which you could use for anything. If you are actually sick, you get a note from the doctor and the employer is required to relieve you, by law.
That is the most appropriate (and suited) spelling mistake I've seen in a while.
Ah fuck
You do realize Australian English is exactly the same as New Zealand English, we deprive it from the UK anyway
I'm a New Zealander, living in Aus as of this year. It's not exactly exactly the same by any means. It's different to the extent I hit a language barrier fairly often. But yeah, I should have realised that the article was on an Australian website. My Kiwi/Aussie misconception-kneejerk kicked in, and as far as I knew so far, it was a New Zealand expression. North Islanders tend to add the -ie bit to their slang, ie: Tag is called Tiggie (Southlanders just call it Tig, though) My bad.
