Japanese Media Not Relaying Information To The People!

My best friend's godparents live in Japan, not too far outside of the evacuation zone, kind of in Tokyo. They sent us a message on Facebook saying that there's almost a media blackout and there's word of a Tokyo evacuation.

thats disgusting! basically blinding there own people also a 6.1 earth quake just hit Ibaraki south of fukushima.
Its a second hand account by two old people, so I wouldn't look too far into it. Still, scary.
This is utterly retarded.
I live in Osaka, and nothing has changed in the media as of late. NHK is still showing the aftermath of the disaster 24/7, including regular updates regarding the nuclear plant. The channels he showed are not government owned or anything like that.
I understand that he's scared, but this kind of stunt really doesn't help anyone.

Which was covered immediately (including a fore-warning) by NHK. There is no media blackout.
They're trying to avoid panic this way. It worked in Chernobyl
I know there isn't a complete media blackout, but he does have a point in the fact that everyone's being told to just sit tight and not go anywhere. I'd be concerned if I was in his position; maybe not to the point I make a rebel resistance style video for youtube, but I'd be severely worried for my wellbeing and that of everyone else in my position.
also is that a french/canadian accent?

I was thinking French but idk.
It's amusing how Americans are outraged about this when it's exactly what's happening in their country as well.

Kansai International Airport was completely full yesterday with foreigners making their way out of Japan, despite the Kansai region being completely unaffected by earthquakes and tsunamis, and being very far away from the nuclear plant. To my understanding there were also more chartered flights today (I know because I declined a seat on one). I can imagine Narita being in a similar position. With some goods like batteries and bottled water being completely sold out in Tokyo due to support for the relief efforts, and train schedules being changed etc, I can understand people being nervous but by stocking up on goods or trying to "run away" you'd only help things go from bad to worse. Earlier this week bottled water was also sold out all over Osaka entirely due to the stocking-up mentality. There is a reason for the government telling people in Tokyo and elsewhere to sit tight and NOT to stock up on goods, it hampers the efforts where it really matters (and we're talking about a whopping 300000 people displaced by the earthquake and tsunami).
Meanwhile, towns closer to the Fukushima plant are being evacuated and accommodated for, every step being reported in the media - if Tokyo was in any imminent danger, we'd surely know.
The guy in the video really just needs to calm the fuck down and watch an actual news channel if he wants to see news (which, you know, the rest of the country might not be interested in 24/7, being almost completely unaffected).
