• Australian High Court recognises third category of sex
A Sydney resident who fought to be legally recognised as being of non-specific gender has hailed a High Court ruling that New South Wales laws do permit the registration of a category of sex other than male or female. Norrie was born male but had a sex change and now does not identify as specifically male or female. After a four-year legal battle, Norrie has won the right to be legally recognised as being of non-specific sex. Norrie, who had been quietly confident of winning the case, says the historic verdict is a big win for the wider transgender community. "I screamed a squeal of delight. Very loudly. It's very thrilling, very exciting," Norrie said. "I'm overjoyed that it has happened. It's important for people to have equal rights in society and if some people are granted the right to have their sex and certain benefits that go along with that, then why shouldn't everyone have that right? "Why should people be left out because they're not seen as male or female? They should be recognised as whatever they are and allowed to participate in society at an equal level."
http://www.abc.net.au/news/2014-04-02/high-court-recognises-gender-neutral/5361362
The cis scum were finally fucking useful for us.
Good on Norrie, he's been fighting for ages after getting jostled around by the NSW gov. and its a pleasure to see him win. e: not 'he' anymore but it's just easier to say it
You're either male or female, you can't be born as nothing. This is stupid (User was permabanned for this post ("Gimmick" - Megafan))
You're either male or female, you can't be born as nothing. This is stupid
What about Hermaphrodites?
You're either male or female, you can't be born as nothing. This is stupid
Sex is a biological thing, gender is what you identify as. Plus when it comes to sex, you should look up all the variations of chromosomes people can end up having that are not your typical XX for female and XY for male.
You're either male or female, you can't be born as nothing. This is stupid
thanks for informing us dr. swagify420
You're either male or female, you can't be born as nothing. This is stupid
No, it happens once in a while. German law was recently changed to allow this on birth certificates.
You're either male or female, you can't be born as nothing. This is stupid
The person in OP isn't claiming to be nothing, but instead argues that sex is not binary (in other words, does not have to be strictly male or female). The problem is that you are defining Male as XY and Female as XX, without further considering what these letters represent. The Y chromosome that men have does not include the code to give you a penis, for instance. That is actually stored on the X chromosome. The Y chromosome only 'activates' elements of the X, as far as sex is concerned. Each chromosome is made of a huge assortment of genes, all prone to mutations (and do mutate in every new individual). It is not far fetched, and is in-fact expected, that individuals can be born in situations where the DNA of the X or Y chromosome is mutated in an uncommon way, or that genes on these chromosomes become active by various causes that the majority of humans do not experience. It's easy to react negatively to news that challenges your current viewpoint. You will grow as a person and in intelligence if you take the time to consider the opposition, and recognize as well as embrace the possibility that you are wrong.
Norrie was born male but had a sex change and now does not identify as specifically male or female.
So it does boil down to a "muh special snowflake" attitude? The fact he became a woman doesn't bother me much, but it's how he still can't decide that he is either one of the two sexes that make it kind of funny.
Truly the scourge of our times.
can i identify as a transraccoon
i think it would make more sense for you to identify as a shitty overused unfunny joke maker
