Hey, in my apartment before I had a security and alarm, so all doors and windows have these magnets sensors or whatever they are called. 1 small box is on door frame and small piece of plastic is on door itself, when door is closed they are close to each other. Now when alarm and whole system has been de-acvitaded I was wondering can I re-use these? I have a Arduino board so I wanted to make like so when door opens I have a red LED come up when it closes it goes off. Any way?
They usually contain a small reed relay, assuming your alarm system provides voltage when deactivated you should be able to add a resistor and LED to it without causing problems with the alarm system.

As I said, alarm system was fully deactivated, it's power supply was turned off and cut off fully. Now it's literally just a plastic box on wall with buttons, no electricity, so I can cut those magnets wires easily.
Try connect it to a power supply with a resistor and LED in series, it should light up when the magnet comes close to the reed relay.
